  • Noise level?

If I run a straight 3" pipe from the manifold back and out in front of the rear wheel, no muffler or converter, will the noise be illegally loud? Will it be a deep throaty sound or the high pitch I hear from other 4 cylinder cars?

yes you will exceed the legal noise limit of the exaust permitted by the police , plus if they catch you they will most likly give you a ticket for noise polution and a fix-it-ticket that only gives you 7 days to fix the problem or they will supend your registration/tag

Depends on what state he lives in.

It bugs me that our cars don't sound good. I mean, they don't sound bad per se, but they definitely can't match a straightpiped SRT4 or a Subaru with good exhaust. I can tell those cars from blocks away and they sound great.

My race car is setup this way. It is loud, not crazy loud like a non-turbo car. No high pitch ricer tin can sound. I think it sounds good. I would have to say it probably would be illegally loud though.

My daily driver had a magnaflow muffler. The muffler part came loose from the rest of the exhaust pipe...so imagine that the muffler could just slide back and forth on the pipe. It sounded great. Once I put a new muffler back on the car, now it sounds fairly boring.
Hoping to get on the track soon

This is my only gripe with my car is the sound! I grew up on the V8 lumpy idle! In my case it is so quiet I can't hear it next to anything! I would not change it though because it keeps me out of trouble with the law! By the time I hit 3rd gear you can't hear it standing where I started!
