  • 84 + Bob's Log = Leak

I put a 3rd gen Bob's Log on my SVO an now I have a leak coming from the bottom of where the head and manifold bolt together. I know that the log sits flush and I know that the stupid holes under the exhaust ports are where it is leaking from. My question is what should I do to solve this problem? How can I plug those stupid little holes? (Log is on with no gasket)

    1) Measure the hole.
    2) Consult a tap and drill chart.
    3) Select an appropriate tap and thread the holes. Keep shavings out of the engine.
    4) Get 4 set screws that match the threads which you tapped.
    5) Screw them in far enough to clear the manifold surface.

This is me asking an ignorant question... What "stupid little holes"? Are these exclusive to the '84/'85 head?

Then why would they be on my stock 84 SVO engine? were they just used until the other heads came?

Apparently your head has been replaced some time within the last 24 years.

Yes a NA head on your car. Hopefully it has the right combustion chamber.

I have a spare head with the air ports on the exhaust side and oval intake ports
Can someone post a picture of what the best combustion chamber would be?

              Thanks

I am pretty sure the head has never been replaced since I have every receipt for all the work ever done on the car and a head change is deffinatley not in the pile. The car only has 39000 original miles so I doubt there would have been any reason to change the head out. It is an early 84 so maybe some of the early ones had these holes?

How about a picture of the head......... and it is very possible to have a head changed.

Compare the numbers on the block with the last six digits of the VIN number. That will tell you if the block is original.

My head on the 86 was replace in 88 with the maifold and turbo at the dealer when the car had 19k on it. So anything is possible. Before people new better they would beat the car sensless and shut it down hot. Alot of maifolds and heads cracked that way. (dont ask)
