T4 exhaust flange same as the AiResearch flange?

The stock sized flange is a T3. The T4 won't bolt up to an E6 without an adapter. Unless you guys are shooting for 500+ HP then stick with a T3/T4 hybrid. Maybe you guys should look at the turbonetics T3/T4 50 trim turbo. It's a good all around turbo and is good 400-450 RWHP.

I have the Turbonetics T3/T4E 50trim with a stage III exhaust. It is on a very ported E6, currently stock elbo and 3" exhaust. This is on an 85 converted to later model 85.5 specs, K&N filter and gillis valve. Just like Eric says its doggy on the bottom. Boost comes in a later than the stock 85 T3 but comes in harder and longer. I have always had an issue with it pinging in 2nd gear since converting it to the later model specs with the PE computer

Then just imagine how doggy it would be with a T4 setup. For someone only wanting 300 RWHP then the factory turbo is the best option. It will spool fast and get you to the mark. Anything in between, I suggest you start to learn how to read compressor maps if you don't already know. You'll also need to know the VE of your engine as well if it's not stock. Through simple math calculating the stock VE isn't hard. Holsets are a different animal. From what I saw on the dyno last Reunion, they come on a bit slower but hit like a freight train on the top. It really comes down to what HP you want to hit and what kind of driving do you enjoy. Answer that honestly and the appropriate turbo experts can point you toward a unit that will make you happy.
I am running a T3/T4 Turbonetics unit with a single ceramic bearing option, it has a 50 trim/stage II .63 setup. So far I am very happy with it. The boost comes in about 200-400rpm later than my home modified factory T3 unit. At 18psi boost I am hitting 242rwhp/296rwtq, but running out of fuel with the stock FPR and a 155lph pump. This model turbo should be good up to 24psi boost on a 2.3L, so I don't think it should have any issues hitting 300rwhp and still be very streetable w/o acting like a light switch.Ted

One word.....standalone. Or perhaps that should be two..lol. We all know the PE is notorious for "aggressive" timing. Also, that's a fairly large turbo for a stock computer setup. What condition is your motor in? Does it burn any oil? If it does that could be causing your detonation. How much boost are you running? Does it knock down low in the RPM's or up high? What AR ratio are you running? Are you running the larger injectors with the PE computer? Sorry for the 20 questions just trying to help.

yea, if you're coming out of a turn in 3rd @ 3500, and romp it, instant boost gauge peg. anything below 3 grand and its down shift time. either you are driving nice around town, or beating the piss out of it to keep it above its boost threshold. i <3 my holset.Originally posted by NavySVO View PostIt's not a "slow spooling" thing. nope. running synthetic/dino blend and charlie put me on a strict 3-5 minute idle cool down regimine. ;P apperntly i had a burnt shaft when i sent it in (lesson learned : less teflon tape is more better). once the engine shuts off, there is no more heat being pumped into the turbine, and no more need for active oil cooling. surface tension holds enough oil in the bearings to keep everything slippy till it finishes costing out.Originally posted by Pat_in_L.A. btw, major props on that line i got from you a while ago, makes me want to clean up the rest of my engine bay. its like a work of art in the middle of a sea of rust.
