  • sound deadening material..

in the near future I'm going to try and get my interior quieter than it is. right now I have wind noise, fuel pump noise, general road noise, muffler noise, etc... my GT is loud as hell and 10 times louder than my SVO, but with the windows up it is quiet inside. I've replaced all the weather seals already.

what types of sound deadening material is out there? I already knwo about dynamat...it's expensive and weighs a ton. i'm thinking like fiber-fill or something along those lines to put in the areas that need it.

a couple things I'm going to do are...get the gas tank cover and hopefully the plastic will take some sound off the metal straps, then put some material in between the tank and the spare tire well, material in the rear hatch area over the spare and in the sides to try and block some sound as well, when i do the head liner I'll fill in all those nooks with material as well.

This stuff, Quietcar coating, works great. You can brush, roller or spray it on. It isn't heavy like Dynamat. It is expensive, but it is worth the cost:

wow, that first audio clip that says BEFORE...that is exactly what mine sounds like, just louder.. LOL

so you install this stuff under the car eh.. won't hurt to do it inside I assume.

You install it INSIDE the car. Take all the carpet and interior panels and headliner out, coat the interior, then reinstall.

The weight of Dynamat is part of what adds to the sound deadening. If you are going to use new sound deadening I would strongly recommend removing the old factory junk.
The best method to remove the old stuff that does not want to come up easy is dry ice. After the ice sits on the old material for about 30 min you should easily be able to peel it up or flake it away. Much easier than busting your knuckles & burning them with a heat gun.
Also don't be lazy on surface prep. Use some terry towels you don't care about & some acetone or denatured alcohol to clean the surface.

I've posted this before, but couldn't find it. It is dated but still good http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

Compared to Dynomat, it looks cheap. Since we have most of the interior already out, I may look into this, too.

If I had the dash out, I think I'd go that route again myself.
