  • 85.5-86 healight swap question

so the plug for the back of the headlamps for th e84-85 and 85.5-86 are different. if someone were to swap from recessed to flush and they had to change the plug. do you have to get the plug ends from a 85.5-86 car OR is it the same plug type as used in 87-93 or other?

When I did my flush light swap on the 84 I found the pigtails at Pep Boys but that was over 10 years ago.

Kinda funny My 86 came with 84 headlights and I had to swapp the pigtails back to 86 style.

I kinda wonder if I got the wrong bulbs from the counter guy both times six years appart and in different states.

as long as they both use the 9004 bulb then yes the socket would be the same.
I got replacement socket from Advanced Auto for my '86

I got mine at Advanced Auto. They came as a pair. "High temp headlight pigtails 9004". $12.39. You can either splice them into your harness or you can put male spade connectors on the ends and plug them into the old headlight socket so you don't hack up your factory harness. Your choice. I had to drill two holes for each headlight adjuster as well. Measure twice, drill once. Pretty easy.

            Adaptor

This is how I did mine. The picture is of an adaptor I made. The male end is an H-4 headlight plug. I got it online from some motorcycle shop. Just search H-4 adaptor. The female end was purchased from Motion Dynamics, but the Autozone one should work fine. It's simple to make and you don't have to cut up the loom. I hope this helps. Tom
