  • Loctite Shift Knob

I've got an SVO that had the shift knob installed with loctite.
Any ideas on how to remove the knob? I've had the knob and shift lever out of the car and tried to loosen the knob from the lever while installed in a vise...no luck.
Is there any solvent for loctite? Any other ideas?

    Dave
Odd, when I took my avitar picture I owned the black SVO...now I own the blue SVO.

    Heat

You may want to try heating it up, heating the shaft, while trying not to start the knob on fire??

Try putting the whole handle and knob in a freezer for a few days to get the metal to shrink a bit and then try again. Maybe Mr. Fleming can give some input, calling Mr. Fleming please!

Heat is needed to release the loctite.

          Maybe you need some loosetite?
Be a man and just turn the lid of the pickle jar.
Make sure you loosen the jam nut, which I hadn't seen mentioned yet.

Got the knob off. Thanks to boardmaster; he reminded me of an old trick I used on a front strut once.

It worked, I wasn't positive but thought that it might work.
Now you need to install the new shift knob and post pics.
