  • kick panels with speakers

Has anyone seen a new kick panel listed for our cars. I was thinking about taking a pair and putting speakers into them. Maybe.

Q Forms won't work? The application listed is for 87-93 but I'd be willing to bet they'd fit.

I did find their website, but really wasnt looking to spend more for two kick panels without speakers than what I spent for the rest of the stereo. I just want to hear the music a little better not enter stereo competitions. When i talked to the kid at Best Buy hemust have thought I wanted a vibrator instead of a car to drive down the road. So I politely thanked him for his "help" and left.

If '87 -'93 kick panels fit then I can get a pair of those easy and cheap enough.

If you know someone who does custom installs you should be able to make some. My step-brothers place does custom stuff all the time.

Kick panels are easy to build. For a decent custom set that will set you back around $350-$400. If you know how to work with fiberglas, MDF, & vinyl you can build a decent set for about $90.
Q-Forms will need modifications to prevent sagging & also mods to fit due to the dead peddel. After the time spent to modify you will have >$300 into them including the cost of the panels.

I don't think you'd have enough depth behind them to just cut holes and put the speakers in the stock panels. Even then, there isn't much support, and they'd probably sag and vibrate with the bass produced by even a small 6" speaker. Sound quality would then be horrible. Even the rear hatch speakers mounted in the flimsy plastic hatch quarter panels don't produce good sound because of the "looseness" of the panel. They need to be mounted to something solid, such as sheetmetal, or braced in some way. That way all of the movement of the speaker cone goes towards producing sound waves, and not moving the surrounding panel.
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

just put some MB quarts in the dash and some tweeters in the outer air vents and it will sound just fine upfront.

I have some MDF so I might try making a pair. It shouldnt be too hard to do for me. Fastening them to the car and making them look nice will be the worst part.

Well if you want to takle it on your own do some research first.

If you plan on building off the kick panel in the car I recommend you use a kick panel from a JY mustang to keep your stocks in tact.
