  • Race Seat Question

I have been thinking about putting a different seat in my car for auto-crossing. Mainly becuase my seats are in very good condition and I really do not want them to get wrecked, and I slide in the seat too much for my liking.

So does anyone have any recommendations? I'm thinking about this seat from Corbeau, but it does not relcine altho the price is fairly decent.

here is another one I found as well.

    Thanks for any input

What all do you use the car for....other then "Drag / Auto-X mule"? Do you need to get kids/paxs into the back seat? If so, then you probably don't want a fixed-back seat.

I've got a set of Corbeau seats in mine and they do quite well. http://www.svoca.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20741

I've seen others with aftermarket seats and most folks seem to be OK with what they've got.

I would suggest you try and find a shop near by that sells the style of seats you're after and SIT in them before you buy them. This is really the only way to know if you'll be happy with what you're buying.

Another option to consider is installing at least a 4-point harness. This will ensure your butt is planted in the seat and not moving around.

The car is mainly used for an auto-x car now, but I do intend to change that this fall and purchase another SVO for a track car and just use this one for shows and crusing. What ever seat I do get it will be put in the other car and the original seats will be put back in my current car.

Study the rules before buying a set of replacement seats. Depending on the sanctioning body and class, the first seat you pictured won't be legal.

We had the same issue with out '86 when we first bought it. Seats were in pretty good shape, but we didn't want to mess them up autocrossing month, after month, after month. We got some cheap seatcovers and they worked wonderfully. We installed a 5-point harness and you're glued to the seat when doing that.

If you get Corbeaus, be careful with the seat mounts/sliders from Corbeau. We have a seat that looks like the first one you posted with a Corbeau slider/seat mount in my wife's 95 Z28 vert. We have had trouble with the seat sliding back unannounced. We've had the same issue with the corbeau seat/seat mount in our Lemons Isuzu. You _must_ make sure that the slider latches lock in on both sides, or the seat will slide back, usually when pressing on the brake or clutch. Fun, fun!
