  • Replacement leather seats - where to buy them?

My leather is looking a little rough. Is anyone making replacement leather covers that match the originals?

We installed the TMI fabric set a while back. They look great, and the fit is great, but man, what a huge PITA the install was!! If I had to do it all again, I'd find an upholstery shop who would install the covers for me. Worth.every.penny.

I have to agree with Gene on the installation. I worked in an upholstery shop when I was a teenager and hated even removing seat covers. After seeing the 'tricks' the guys in the shop use for getting the covers onto the seats, especially with new foam was simply impressive. There is no way for your average home mechanic to have availability to those items the shops have.

I actually purchased some of the dedicated tools to help make the job easier, like the upholstery stretchers and hog ring pliers. Those, and an assortment of tools I brought to the project, IMHO, actually made the job possible, not just easier. I even did the 'put a trash bag over the seat foam' trick, and it was still a LOT of blood, sweat and tears. I was working in our living room, and still ended up getting soaked with sweat after a session with the covers. So yeah, it's a great workout, but really tough on the hands.

Regular / SVO seats are a piece of cake. I've done a few sets of repair / full recover.

I just recovered the recaro's in my 79 Pace Car. Now those are a biotch.....

We did replacement covers AND padding. It was NOT a piece of cake!
