so plopped down to install the new raido--
OF COURSE, the harness that was listed for the car is not even close.. so throw these 2 out.

Was hoping someone could clarify what's left in here..
I think the 3 on the right side go to the console (eta timer etc)??

Running all new speaker wires, so not overly concerned with those.

Huh. No wonder the water doesn't woik, wires!!

I can't offer anything constructive, but that reminded me of a Three Stooges movie scene. A PO installed some after market radio in our car, using a hack saw blade to open the hole in the dash, as well as installing AM speakers with decking screws (no, I'm NOT kidding!) in the rear trim panel. I went back with panels that look a bit more stock, and am considering the Comp Delete blanker plate I got from another member a while back to replace that nasty thing, unless I can come up with a premium radio to install in it's place. Not sure if that would work with the hack job, though. I just may decide to enjoy the whistle of the turbo, and burble of the 3" open exhaust. Who knows?

Radio is in, finally putting things back together, so feeling a lot better about progress....

have 3 connectors 'left hanging' ---

This one, I BELIEVE the one above is the old speaker wire connector. as I ran new speaker wires, I can't verify, as the original ones were gone anyway...
colors listed for speaker wires..
Front Left + Green
Front Left - Black/White
Front Right + White/Red
Front Right - Black/White
Rear Speakers 5 x 7 Quarter Panel
Rear Left + Pink/Red
Rear Left - Pink/Blue
Rear Right + Pink/Blue
Rear Right - Green/Red

Seems to match up....

I can't seem to match the wire colors up with anything in the wiring diagrams.
I do have the center console plugged in and working too, so I know it's not anything that plugs in there.

Any thoughts ?

That top connector (top pic) looks like the speaker wire connector for sure. On the bottom connectors, not completely sure, but the right-hand one looks like one of the octane/fog light switch connectors. Is it rectangular or square? If you could take a pic from the open end, that would help show the shape a bit better. Will take a browse through my EVTM to see if I can find a match.

Thats the thing, fogs and octane are plugged in and working. .. and that connector will even plug in to the console connection!!
The plug is identical... But the wire colors are different

Best I can tell is that they are for the 'graphic warning module' that our cars don't have. It has been a few years since I was behind my console to remember if I have a couple of unused connectors back there. Looking at the reference in the EVTM below, you can see that C206 & C243 are the 4 & 8 pin connectors respectively and are mated to the module. My guess is just leave them tucked under there and not worry about it.

That's probably it... but I didn't remember them being in my silver car, but that's been a day or 3 since I had it apart.

Probably need to start a new thread but this is so close to what I'm in the middle of maybe I could get some help??
I'm trying to go back to original but the amp and harnesses to the stereo are long gone. I have an OEM digital cassette that I payed to have rebuilt and a aux. jack installed. It looks and works great. I plug in power and the speaker connectors and all works properly.

What I really need is the proper amp and harnesses or really good pictures of the connectors and wires. I've spent the past week or so trying to come up with how things went together originally. I've combed through manuals, schematics and pictures on the net. I can see differences between mine and the one above. Specifically it looks like there is no amp switch so...
Anyway can someone point me? Many Thanks John

probably should start a new one, but will throw out what I know, which isn't a ton
so need to be a bit more specific, I BELIEVE 84 was the only year with the amp (and amp switch) -- 85, 85.5 and 86 only had 2 switches, and no external amp. at least none of the 2 86's and 1 85.5 I've owned had external amps. -- that don't mean someone didn't rip it out before I owned it.

OK that makes sense. Mine is a late 84 that I purchased in June of that year. So I guess I would need someone with a 3 switch unmolested unit to have pity on me and take some very detailed pictures. I found some pictures on line but they were such poor quality they were useless. I have a Ford 1984 Mustang/Capri Electrical & Vacuum Trouble-Shooting Manual that has a detailed schematic but no connector configurations . Do you know of any candidates with an 84 I could contact? Hey John,
the good news is, that amp wasn't specific to the SVO... lots of the GT's of the same year had the AMP switch, and I'd assume same amp and wiring. I know I had a GT350 anniversary edition that had the same amp and switch.

OR-- you could always go business in the front, party in the back (looks stock but is not), with an aftermarket amp, in the same location

Just an FYI, my 86 has an external amp (all stock). The amp sits in the center speaker location under the dash pad. Not sure of its specs, but it is part of the stock 'premium' system that came in our SVO's.

With the information you guys have given me my searches can include a lot more variables. I should be able to locate something...
svono50, when is the next time you plan on being anywhere near your amp? or do you have pictures by chance already? Thanks guys. I've been meaning to get on the site for years to ask these questions.
