To your question, I would say that the car is not originally a Comp Prep. To begin with, as I read online, there were only 80 comp prep 1986s, making it quite a rare car.

The car has power door locks, power windows and OEM radio.

My repair shop's owner said he worked for a Ford dealer as a kid in Texas. He claimed he could install an A/C in a new car in 1 1/2 hours after a lot of practice. He said that most
new Fords came stripped so they could advertise a low price in the newspaper. The dealer would up-sell the A/C, easy in Texas, right? He recognized the compressor as an aftermarket unit.
Ford must have been involved at some level, because the control panel is not obviously aftermarket.

    That is all I know.

Based on the power windows and door locks, no it would not have the Comp Prep 41C option. Not in 1986.

OEM radios are easy enough to add during dealer prep and/or sale on a Comp Prep model and yes, there are examples out there of dealer AC Comp Prep cars. All part of trying to close the deal.

Your VIN decal on the B post will indicate your options as well as the buck tag on the radiator support.

Glad you got the core replaced and can enjoy your car.
