  • Headlights 2

When I went to install my new headlights (NOS) I notice the bottom "spring-thingy" at the end of the the handy dandy arm does not SNAP on to the screw-post like the top ones do. In fact, I can jiggle the light in and out about 1/8 inch. It isn't anywhere near as snug as the top ones. When I look at the headlight hole with the clip installed I notice very little of the "tab" sticking through the hole.
See pix. It is of the right light, and actually is better than the left (already on the car).
Any ideas on how to make that tab stick through more? Or should I just not worry about it?

    Chris,

I wouldn't worry about it. Those things are made of unobtainium and if you mess it up, you are SOL!

If you want a snugger fit, you might slip on a small rubber O-ring in the groove to take up the slack. You will need to put a little vasoline on the o-ring to make adjusting easier.

        springy thingy

Does anyone have a workaround or know where one might obtain a couple of those springy thingys that go on the bottom of the headlights? Both mine are gone and the headlights tend to bounce and vibrate. Seems like I read a thread about getting them off a salvage Escort or Windstart. Anybody tried that? What models? Thx!

I think there were a couple of other vehicles that used them -- none are coming to mind tho.

Have you checked ?? I think they may still be available through ford.

I dont have one handy, but could you just bend the tab in, so it is more of a "/\" shape?

Mid 80's escorts had used a similar locking clip on the headlight and can be used on the SVO. It's smaller and a different design thatn the ones on the SVO but it serves the purpose until someone buys unobtanium and makes these.
