  • History 999 Report

Well after hearing of a few others requesting and actually getting their history 999 report, I decide to give it another try. I lost count on how many times I've called in (3-4 at least) over the years. I called and got a live person and made my request. He had no idea what I was talking about but with a bit more discussion he said " oh, you want a build sheet". I figured there is no way they will come up with the build sheet but most likely something resembling the history 999 report. The next problem was my VIN kept getting rejected saying it was invalid. I had it correct off the Ford recall letters and my DMV registrations. Maybe this is why my report never showed up. We will see in a few weeks I guess.

It is cool to get it, but it can take more than once to get it right. When the copy shows up there may be mistakes.

    Tires were wrong
    Seat material was wrong

I've got to remember to get mine. The one I got for the 84 2A took to calls, three months and I was going to call again to have errors fixed. Never got around to it.

      ..Report 999

Hi Kevin, I did ask FORD for mine long time ago (Aug,14,2001) and actually what I got from them was total break down of my vin# indicating what every letter and digit stands for and the production date. Also it lists all the options in the car,ie: leather seats color, A/C, etc...
This letter came from Ford Customer service division (..I am looking at the letter as write this).

I also got from a place called "The Third generation news & beyond National registry" 321-964-1125 email thirdgeneration@aol.com a complete break down by production numbers..I think I paid $20 or so..I hope this helps...

The current fee is $10.00 for the Third Generation report. It is well worth the price!

Great info guys. I'm going to have to get one from Third Gen. 10 bucks is not that bad at all.

Build sheets top off the paper work collection if you ever get the opportunity to look for them. I didn't find the one for my 84 till I stripped it - it was behind the right rear panel, but it was in perfect shape. I'm sure placement is random so make sure you really want to go through the whole car before starting the hunt.

            999 REPORT

I just called for mine yesterday and the girl I talked to knew exactly what I was wanting and said that a lot of people ask for those on older cars... Hopefully mine will come in and I will know for sure that the report is acurate or not... considering my first 1E car is all original

Yes it is. the 3rd gen reprt is how I found out my 85.5 was one of the last ones built (last day of production) for that model year.

I am all over that. Just out of curiosity and a near relation to the subject. Has anyone ever attempted to determine previous owners of their cars? How is it that people always seem to be able to come up with information and documentation on old race cars, prototypes etc. I cant even get a Carfax report with anything of value on it.

Odd, I have that same problem. I have one car that will give me info on the quick "free" inquiry, but generates an error with the paid version stating that "no info can be found on this vin" I'm the second owner - kinda - of that car in that the real second owner was more of a pass through, doing nothing to the car but reselling it.

That is one of the reasons we created the registry...

DMV is a good source of info -- sometimes.. -- other times it is just easer to trace back the history by finding previous owners.
