  • Re-locate Battery Install

Well...I relocate my battery over the weekend. I also added an Optima Red top. The box is from Summit along with the wires. Overall, a very easy thing to do. Thought I'd share some pics.

The Optima is a sealed battery. No real need to vent it.

And a pair of matching fire bottles - very cool!
I believe there is only one, and it's other friend is a reflection....battery box is awfully shiney!

                Slightly related to this topic...

Pink...do you have any pics of the rear seat delete? It looks like you just extended the rear hatch carpet down across the back seat well.

I'll get some more detailed pics that shows what I did. Basically, I got the ACC matching carpet by the yard from 5.0 resto and then used a 3/4" piece of MDF board that I put in place of the rear seat bottom cushion. I then figured out the gap in the front between the the "new floor" and the old one (make sense?).

Hardest part was figuring out the contours where it meets with the interior plastic. For here I used some wire and bent it into the proper contour and traced that onto the MDF.

I used back-strapping to secure the rear of the panel. The front is not currently secured, although I plan to probably use 90* angle brackets to secure it.

second one - this one shows where I had to shape the false floor to fit up against the interior plastic

This one shows how I installed the carpet past the rise in the floor. All I did was trim it and pushed the extra under the interior plastic panels. I then put the stock hatch carpet over it.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it. I like the way it turned out....almost looks like something the factory may have done.

Looks very similar to both the 93 and 95 Cobra R models from the factory. Looks very good! I'd bet someone is going to ask you for a template so they can do it on their car(s). I already have the Dugan rear seat delete kit for my LX / Frankencar but haven't figured out the carpet yet. I'm still in the middle of getting the interior back in after 5 or 6 years of the panels etc stored in the garage. I'm also still fitting the interior quarter panels to the 6 point roll bar... not much fun...

Yeah, I've been thinking of taking measurements. I'll try and put something together over the next week or so. When I was researching this project I was surprised that no one had come up with any kind of template....or at least I wasn't able to find one on-line.

Yeah the Dugan kit is fiberglass and was discontinued some years ago. I'm not that impressed with it but it was his last one and I got it cheap. I was at his store to buy a set of SVO wheels and he was having a clearance sale. If you try to set any weight on it it will collapse I'm sure. I don't really have to worry as the shoulder height cross bar keeps anybody from even thinking about sitting or crawling through to the back.
