I am really struggling. I have an 84 SVO with 50,000 one owner miles that I bought in April. The car sat for 4 years before I bought and it is very musty.

Mechanically the car is great, but the interior smells horrible. The car has the cloth interior with no stains or tears. The padding in the front seats appears to have gone bad and my struggle is what to do. I want to keep stock, but the smell is not dimenishing despite the cleaning that I had done at a detail shop.

It appears that I cannot get a set of replacement seat covers from anybody that I can find.

I am wondering about putting in a set of leather seats if I could find or just putting in a set of aftermarket seats.

I intend to put in new carpet, but I am waiting until I decide what to do with the seats.

    Help??

Join the SVOCA and get yourself some leather seat covers from E & G Classics. They are a perfect match for the originals and should have your SVO smelling new in no time ( or as long as it takes to get them installed ).

I wonder if the smell isn't in the padding. Maybe the interior trim shop is my next trip.

      Thanks for the thoughts.

If you DO have someone redo your seats, take everything out yourself and deliver the seats to them. It will save you money, ant you can replace the carpeting while the seats are out. You just may find something buried under the carpet, seats, etc. that is causing the odor.
What "cleaning" did you have done at the detail shop?
BTW, can you find any one area that the smell is coming from?

Not sure what they used to clean the seats, but when I drive the car the smell physically gets on my clothes.

I am thinking that replacing all of the padding and then putting new covers on the seats should make a huge difference.

You might need to replace the headliner too. It had a cardboard backing which may have soaked up some of the smell also. Good luck.

Well that is bad news about E & G! I'm glad I got mine when I did. It may have been the last set?

Crap...I guess that's what I get for procrastinating. I kind of assumed since they'd been selling the kits for at least a couple of years that they wouldn't be going away anytime soon. I wasn't planning on doing anything with the seats for about another 8-9 months.

Uggh...anyone have any somewhat affordable alternatives??

I was going to use the leathers on the 7B. I might be able to put together a good set of cloth covers if that would work for you? As you know none of my stuff is going anywhere anytime soon...

I found these guys last night. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I'm going to contact them and get some material samples to evaluate the quality of the material and the color match.
