I'm going to contact them and get some material samples to evaluate the quality of the material and the color match.
Note that they don't come in dove stitch, just piping.
BTW where does simulated leather come from...a plastic cow?

Yeah, I saw that. Its not a perfect solution but it may be less expensive than taking the seats to an upholstery shop. I'm calling around to a few in my area to see what it would run to have the seats redone from scratch.

I'll keep everyone posted on what I find out about this place.

Nope. They shut things down so fast ... not even one more kit was made. Lee did, however, took custody of the patterns. Never fear guys - we're looking for another company to make a correct leather kit.

Meantime - you could always visit your local upholstry shops in your area. You'l be amazed at what they can do for you.

Any anticipated timeframe for securing another vendor? I also procrastinated but was going to have the seats redone this fall. Otherwise I may just find a local shop.

Let me know what course you take. I am going to complete the car this Fall/Winter and that is my next step. I will likely go to a local interior shop and get some input from them.

Mechanically the car is great, but the interior smells horrible. The car has the cloth interior with no stains or tears. The padding in the front seats appears to have gone bad and my struggle is what to do. I want to keep stock, but the smell is not dimenishing despite the cleaning that I had done at a detail shop.

It appears that I cannot get a set of replacement seat covers from anybody that I can find.

I am wondering about putting in a set of leather seats if I could find or just putting in a set of aftermarket seats.

I intend to put in new carpet, but I am waiting until I decide what to do with the seats.

              Help??
If this isnt your only driver and you're willing to do a little work...you can get the smell out and get them looking and smelling brand new.

basically take the seats apart. remove the covers from the seat foam. Get yourself a big trashcan and fill it with 1:5 solution of bleach/water. Dip each cover in the trashcan and let it sponge up. They will be heavy. Hang them up preferably in a covered garage and let them sit. It usually takes about 2-3 weeks for pads to completely drain/dry. The bleach solution will complete kill and neutralize any and all mold and mildew. While you've got the covers off go ahead and wash them a few times in the washing machine and you would be surprised at how clean you can get them compared to even the best deep cleaning you or a professional carwash can do. Plus if you've got some stitching coming apart you can have an upholstery shop touch it up MUCH cheaper at this point than if you took the entire seat in. You'll also be able to inspect/repair the air bladders now too.

Then go to ace or somewhere and get some hogring pliers and a box of hogrings and put the seats back together.

Don't you mean dip the seat foam in the bleach/water solution?

If you still can't lose the musty smell you might try calling a fire restoration company to rent an ozone generator. The ozone penetrates into porous materials and kills off spores (like carpeting and paneling after it's dried out). It also neutralizes smells. The only drawback is that excessive exposure can damage rubber.

Replace the carpet and sound deadener underneath. That will probaby make the biggest improvement.

You can get your original cloth redone. It all depends how much money you're willing to spend. There have been some recent discoveries of the center section (grey w/ black dots) out there. There is rumor that the solid grey is the same as that found in other Ford vehicles....I've even heard that it is the same as some of the headliner material out there. I don't know about this last part as I haven't compaired the two.

These seats were recently done with all new material....about a year ago. I don't know the shop that did it since I bought them after the seats were re-done. I think it all depends how "correct" you want to be or if you're willing to accept a slight difference from the original material.

it may have been when i was taking a "power" nap in my recliner, between times i throw a log in my wood stove and it is snowing and below zero- but i seem to remember that e&g was just stopping leather production for a period of time with the intentions of starting again in the future.

I am in the process of having my cloth seats reupholstered with original material from Gary. Believe me when I say that it was not cheap for 9 yards of material (inner & outer) about $1100 plus the $800 to the shop to make new covers from the old ones. Since it seems we are left out in the cold for now, I felt like I had no recourse but to spend the bucks and get them done right. I will post pics when they are complete in a week or two.

I checked many upholstery books to try and find comparable material, but was unsuccessful. Plus I am a stickler for originality so I guess I have to pay for that.

                            interior

hey don. how many of the 9 yards did you use to do your seats? seems like the interior( not bolster) seat material takes approx 4 yards and that will include the door panels.

                              Bob,

I have the upholstery shop replacing both the inner and outer material on the front and rear seats. Unfortunately, due to the heat sealed construction of the door panels, there is no way to redo the door panels without changing the way the trim attaches. He has advised against this, since there is no way to replicate the factory appearance. I will attempt it on my own with an extra set of panels and post the results at a leter date.

As far as replacing the material goes, he estimated roughly 4.5 yards of inner material and 4.5 yds of bolster material. I do anticipate leftovers, but I am not counting on much. That stuff is good but awfully expensive.

                                interior

yes it is expensive. also i would advise anyone who is contemplating buying material reputed to be original-do your homework. as far as i know fmc has never given permission for reproduction of either interior or bolster cloth.
also i have been told by several reputable shops the same thing about the door panels. always sems to be a hitch in things somewhere.
let me know how yours turns out. you might be able to start a new svo aftermarket industry.
