white trash bumper cover repair

ok, so "Krusty" had a day of TLC today- I did a bunch of stuff that has been overlooked in past years-
I bypassed the power steering cooler (leaking badly), installed a 3 core radiator, etc, etc.

I also fixed the (pretty much destroyed) bumper cover, using an idea from Mike-
just take a piece of wood and screw the bumper to it! I was going to get fancy w/ epoxy and steel, but this was easy and only took 45 mins. without seeing the cracks in the cover, you'd never know it was headed for hte junk pile.

as the pics show, I made a template from a good cover, and screwed the bad cover to it. Its pretty sturdy, despite not having the light bar in there.

That looks ever so much better, Phil! It was certainly 45 minutes well spent.

Wood and old Fords have traditionally gone together. From the days of the Model T through the 40's Fords used wood as part of the supporting body structuure. Henry Ford even invented the charcoal briquette to utilize the sawdust left over from building cars!

Maybe you instead of "Krusty", you should rename your SVO "Woody".

Phil, great job on that repair. Most covers would go to the heap like you stated, and then there is also the issue of a few dollars spent on the wood, vise almost $500.00 for the new cover.

edit: While it may have looked like it was head to the junk pile, a competent bodyshop can repair the damage for much less than the cost of a repro/new cover, or so I would think...
