  • Repairing faded passenger side marker

The lens of my right side markers was OK but the deflector was very faded.
I found some metallic body stripe, very flexible, and with the help of an hair dryer was able to stick it over the deflector (or reflector ?).
When you put back the lens, it's like having new marker.

    Hi Fripp,
seems like a good solution. I had always thought to use that chrome spray they use. Any chance you could take a photo of the inside of the lens and post that for me??

      HI,
Has required, I took some pictures of the inside of the lens. Also I made some tests to see what can happen with the chrome tape, from 20 degree C to minus 20 C. Do you know if somebody tryed the chrome paint over the reflector ?

        Hi Fripp,
thanks for the photo's, will be a great help with my little project. The only concern I can think of with using adhesive tape on the reflector is that the heat from the lamp may, over time, cause the adhesive to fail and the tape to fall off. Just a thought.

After 3 days, the chrome tape starting to peel at warm temperature.
I finally ordered chrome paint from Eastwood.

            Hi Fripp,
yeah, I figured it would. Let me know what Eastwood paint you use and what the results are like. Thanks for keeping us informed and thanks again for the photos.

man, I'd have been scared to death to pull off the lense on my passenger marker like you did for fear of cracking it or otherwise damaging it...cudos to you for having bigger berries than me

                No kidding!
How are you guys seperating the lens/housing and how are you sealing it back up?
The BATFE should be a convenience store.

the popular way that I know of doing it from the honda boards is to put it in your kitchen oven for a little while at 200 degrees to loosen the sealant and then just pry the lense from the housing so you can do whatever you want.

Then just get clear silicon sealant and put a new bead on after cleaning all the old goo off and stick them back together.

this is the normal way I hear of people doing it but there are the horror stories of people not letting it warm long enough and cracking the lense or leaving it too long and the plastic deforming from the heat.

If he did it this way then thats why I say he's got bigger berries than me! lol.

I would do it on my driver side marker since I can get a repop for cheap but not my passenger side

I've separted them using a putty knife and slowy cutting the seam all the way around. You can hear it pop when the old glue lets go. I used clear silicone glue that is used in fish tanks to seal 'em back up.

I hope that stuff will go the distance. I wanted to stop my headlights from leaking and used 3M Silicon adhesive. It didn't work and the stuff has an adhesive rating of "7"; which made me a little nervious.

In addition, both repo front inside markers lenses came separated from their housings and almost fell off the car (from dropping hood I think).

In desperation I used Elmers crazy glue gel and popped them back together. It's been 1 1/2 years and they're still tight.
