  • What happened to satin black paint.

I'm bummed. I painted some of my trim parts and one of my side mirrors satin black out of a rattle can. Now I can't find it anywhere. Does anybody know why it has disappeared from the store shelves. Was there some bad chemicals in it or what. I guess I'll have to start over with a different black.

What brand of paint were you using? We SVO owners have been pleased with the quality and availability of SEM brand paints to respray trim parts. They are available at most auto paint and body supply stores.

I had used Krylon in the past, but I couldn't find any at the time. This last batch was from OSH (Orchard Supply Hardware). But now all they have is gloss, semi gloss, semi flat and flat. Satin was sort of between semi gloss and semi flat. I used it on my Datsun 510 in the 70's and just about every car since then. I've looked at auto parts stores and hardware stores, notta. I bought some Dupli-Color Trim Paint. But I haven't checked it out yet. I just hate having to start over.

        An alternative...

        to satin black.

Go to WalMart and experiment with "Chalkboard" aerosol.

Dupli color has a nice selection of blacls of you can find a store with a decent selection in stock. Pep Boys is usually the best. They have a "Flat", "Low Gloss", "Satin" and "Gloss" black engine paints that cover very well. I use it on nearly everything. I used quite a bit of it on my Mach 1.
