  • dashpad cover

I was on a couple different parts sites, and the paintable plastic dashpad covers are different prices for different colors.

Can anyone tell me why the black one is $5.00 cheaper than the gray one? Maybe I am mising something, or are they all black and I am getting charged for someone to paint it for me.....and possibly the wrong color gray....

I believe that they are all molded in black and painted to match your interior. Don't know if the molder paints them or they are sent to someone.

I had one that came with my 85 GT vert when I got it. It was the molded in black and the seller gave me a pint of paint that he had mixed at his local bodyshop. In this case it did not come with the installation kit. I never used it and sold for cheap at the MCA 40th show since I already had a real nice NOS that I had used.

The one that I bought was grey on the back side as well. I assumed that it was molded with the proper grey but I never scratched away at the surface to find out for sure.

The one I have is gray also on both sides. Also for mine, when I put it on to test fit, it fit so good, I didn't even use the glue. I was affraid that if I used the glue, it would end up bubbling or warping the cover (that happened to a my brothers car). So far, so good.
Hoping to get on the track soon

This isn't paint related but I haven't had great luck with the plastic dash caps. Every one that I have ever bought (three) has ended up warping and bubbling due to the heat from the windshield.

From the windshield or the sun?

Just Kidding......I appreciate all input, I just couldn't resist....

I just don't want to go the repo dashpad route, as I have heard nothing but negetive comments on them, and they run almost $200.00 shipped, vice right around $60.00 for the plastic cover. I also store the car in a garage, so it won't see as much abuse as a car parked outside.

The cover I got from MD was grey on both sides. I also purchased the interior spray paint and had painted all the interior pieces. Didn't need to paint the dash though, it was close enough in color that I didn't even bother. I didn't have any problems w/ it bubbling or warping from the windshield or the Oklahoma sun. It didn't make it through the crash though.......

I've had the dash cap on mine for over 6 years in the Texas sun with no problems and unfortunately my SVO sits outside most of the time.
