  • Subframe connectors

    You need these!!!! PERIOD!!!
no matter what brand! no matter if it's a daily driver, no matter if you drag race, autocross, whatever!
    A little background...
My car is not a drag car... But i use it as a benchmark for mods work, and for braging rights. I'd been having trouble hooking up on launch. Soooo, I decided to do more than drive to the track, jump in line, get my runs in, then go home.
The last time I drag raced my car, I aired the back tires down to 12 psi, (cheap pep boys tires) loosened the front struts up, and cranked the rear shocks as stiff as they would go. I revved the engine, and right before the green, I popped the clutch & floored it. The car left hard, the front end raised up, and I heard a loud "CRACK!!!!",,, but kept going. I ran my fastest time ever (14.90) and had my best R/T. Worried, I went back to pits, looked all around, but it was dark, I couldn't find anything wrong. ran a few more passes, but took it easier on launch. Next day, i'm cleaning interior... I notice a nice long crack in the dash from the bottom of the stereo up to the glove box! OUCH! That's some twisting!

Anyway, Now, I've got Kenny Brown double cross connectors on my car.
When I picked the car up, and sat in the seat, it felt funny. It felt like it was leaning to the left. That's because it was now straight!!! I had gotten used to it leaning towards the center of the car!
It also didn't wobble! I thought it was the seat tracks that had play in them, but it was my floor board!
The things improved the stiffness of my car dramatically!
I think that most subs are similar, and simalarly priced, and have never had any others, but I'd say that any subs are better than none at all!

Any subframe connector is a very good idea, especially on an aging Fox platform. In my experience though Global West has by far the best subframe connector on the market. It attaches further forward than the majority on the front of the floor support at the actual subframe rather than at the end of the thin metal floor support and goes all the way back to the torque box. Made of Round tubing, it is stronger than the square ones...and it also has the optional seat support however I have not found that to be necessary...but if your floor has been cracked in the past then it is good measure for added insurance. Definitely a must have!

      subframe connectors

I agree with Dave & Paul that subframe connectors help greatly
on an SVO. We're talking about a platform that was originally
made for Fairmonts. If you do any spirited driving, your car will
handle much better (no chassis flex). I installed the Global West
ladder bar style connectors on my 86 comp prep. I also got the
piece that connects to the seat mount area of the floor board.
After I had the chassis straightened on a frame rack (you don't
want to install on a bent car) the connectors were installed. I
noticed a great improvement in handling after the frame was
straightened. Even more so after the connectors were welded
in place. I can now take twisty Kentucky back roads with
confidence that my SVO will go where I tell it to.
This modification has definitely added enjoyment to my SVO.
