I installed my adjustable fan controler from SVPU this weekend, and it is GREAT.

The sensor off this unit actually goes inside the radiator hose. Some kits have a sensor that you press through the the fins in the radiator. I dont like them!!!!! they cant be accurate.

This install was fast, easy, and most of all, it works like a charm. Instructions were clear, and easy to follow. It even includes steps on how to wire in a manual cut-on switch.

after my fan setup was completed, I started the car, let it warm up, and set the controler so that the fan kicks on when the gauge hits the left side of the R on normal. I let it run for about 45 mins, and it worked perfectly kicking on, and off multiple times, and never letting the car get warmer than what I set.

here is a pic of my install, I mounted the unit on the bottom of the breather. That is the only downside with this kit. The controler must be mounted within reach of the copper probe, but there is plenty of tube to reach anywhere you should need.

The install was quite easy. I was expecting something a little different but the unit works well. She stays real cold. I will be buying another fan plug from ford so I dont have to cut mine off. I would recomend this to paul. other than that it is real sraight forward. This is a quick and easy install. I would say it is a gotta have. It is also cheap insurance against cracking a head.

SVPU Adjustable Fan Controller - Did I receive the right one?

I ordered the adjustable fan controller from SVPU last week. Fast shipping btw...thanks. I am wondering if I received the right one or not. On my invoice, it shows I ordered SVP-6002, which is the one that is listed on their website.

On their website, it says:

A must have for the SVO Owner. SVO owners are plagued with the failure of the TRW relay box which leaves them without a functioning electric cooling fan. This is a kit that cures that problem. There are other kits that stick a probe through the radiator fins, we do not like that kit as it is not as accurate as this one. This probe inserts into the cooling system easily at the upper radiator hose. The kit actuates the fan at desired engine temperatures ranging from 180-240 degrees. Complete with instructions.

I received mine today and it looks like, from what I can tell, it is the design that you fit through the fins of the radiator. I have not opened it yet, but from the instructions that I can read, it gives directions to place in the fins of the radiator, not the upper radiator hose.

I know several of you all have this installed, so I was wondering if this is the same unit as everyone else received. This is the unit that I received..see pic.

Please advise. BTW- I have placed an email to Paul at SVPU as well.

this does NOT go into the fins of the radiator, it goes into the upper radiator hose, directly into the coolant.

Thanks Eric...so is this the same kit that you received?

How does the probe mount in the radiator hose? Did you actually cut into the hose or just fit in into the end of the hose where it goes into the radiator and then use a hose clamp to seal it tight? Any risk of leaks?

I have used it for a year now with the thermostat in the hose. With my older hose it leaked a good bit but a new hose cut down on that a great deal. It only leaks every once in a while. This controller is inadequate for a bigger fan. If your fan is stock it's fine but if you go with a Taurus fan or something else like it you will need something like this: http://www.dccontrol.com/fancontrol.htm

I had to upgrade after burning out my fan circuit with the SVPU unit on my taurus fan.

mine has never leaked a drop. there is a rubber piece included to run it through, so it don't leak.
Put the probe into the end of the hose, put the rubber piece on the copper tube, so it don't leak and then put the hose onto the radiator.

Thanks guys...I will try go ahead and try to hook it up this weekend and see if it works.

I will be hooking up a stock Thunderbird Turbo coupe dual fan on my SVO, so it should be ok.

Hopefully I won't have any leaks. I opened the package and the instructions explicitely say put in the fins of the radiator. It mentions nothing about putting into the radiator hose. I will give it a shot however. btw . mine didn't come with a rubber piece to help with any leaks...it only came with a rubber end piece to fit on the end of the probe as an insulator cap.

dude, I see the rubber piece in the package.

is the copper probe connected by a long piece of copper tube ?
I don't have any other pics, and it's raining here..

That pic of the package is not mine. I grabbed that off the internet somewhere.

These pics, however, I just took. Here is the pic of everything that was in the package. As you can see from the directions, it shows to place in the fins of the radiator.

There is a black knob and a black rubber piece that attaches to the end of the probe once it is placed in the fins of the radiator. That is it. There is no other rubber piece in there. The black rubber piece that you place on the end of the probe is not what you are alluding to I don't believe.

Another thing I just noticed. On the stock photo I grabbed from the internet, it shows the adjustability of 180 degrees to 240 degrees. Mine only shows 160-220. Same part number though.

I am wondering if they changed the unit. See photos.

BTW - I am not trying to be difficult...just trying to make sure I got the right one. Every post that I have seen has been rave reviews about how the instructions are very detailed and how it fits inside the radiator hose. Per my instructions, it says nothing about putting the probe in the radiator hose.
