  • Plug and Chug cup holder

While taking a lengthy road trip in the SVO last Sunday, I began to look for a place to put my Dr Pepper. Well after looking, the only place I found was my lap. After almost spilling it a couple of times I finally decided I'd had enough! When I got to work on Monday, I called Late Model Restoration Supply and ordered one of those Plug and Chug cup holders that pops in place of your ashtray. Today it arrived in the mail! I was so excited that I went and installed it over lunch. The install was easy, only took about 5 minutes to get it in and fitting right. First thing I did after work was make a bee line to the convenience store for a cold Dr Pepper. When I got back to the car, I triumphantly placed the plastic bottle in the cup holder, only to find IT DID NOT FIT!!!!! The cup holder inserts are too small for anything other than a can or a Minute Maid juice bottle.

It is a good looking product that falls way short on function. I'm considering taking it to a custom upholstery shop and asking them to use it as a template and make me one that will work! My Dr. Pepper needs a home!

I think that GAboySVO has found a later model Mustang console lid on one of his cars that has cup holders. That may be another alternative.

      Plug & chug

      Lon,

I bought one of those cup holders a couple of years ago. While my car has not been on the road in this time, when I bought the holder I could see that it would not hold very much (but I wanted it to hold something) and envisioned myself driving around a corner and having the drink spill as the cup holder is very shallow as well.

It does fit really good and matches the interior very well.

I purchased the center console armrest replacement with a cup holder. It will handle a cup, bottle, can etc. up to the size of a can kuzzie about 3.25".

The only draw back is there was no latch mechanism mounting place, so I just used velcro to hold the lid in place. I got mine from MustangsUnlimited.

I purchased one of each of these cupholders. I bought the plug and chug for the SVO and the armrest replacement for my GTturbo. While the armrest replacement style certainly is a better "cupholder," I was kind of dissappointed in the bulky look it has. It also seemed as though it would interfere with "spirited" driving although I havent tested this theory since the car is in the midst of being re-done.
I think the plug and chug is much more pleasing to the eye and with a little modification could be even more functional than the other. ie I like to put my change in the extra slot it has.
Duhhh!!!! Why dont ya put a 5.0 in that car George???

              Plug & Chug

Where did you order the "plug & chug?" I think I would like to buy one. A can holder is all I need & I'd like to find something that looks nice.

              What did you pay?

              Want to sell yours?

              Thanks,

You can get the replacement arm rest with the cup holder from Mustangs Unlimited.
