  • Will this fit.

Hey guys I was looking at some rims, and was wondering if 17x9 rims with a +24 mm. Offset and 5.95 in. Backspacing will work on the SVO. Will it need any modifications?

I believe those are standard sn95 wheels. they may work but will stick out. good chance the front center caps won't fit on either.

      Lets compare dimensions....

stock wheel is 16x7 with +44 offset. New wheel will be 2 inches wider...basically one inch per side compared to stock wheel. Now shift that outward to add the difference in offset...20mm.

From the outside lip of the stock wheel, the new will will stick out one inch further PLUS 20mm....so 1.81 inches outward of the stock wheel. Inside lip will be .19" further under the car than the stocker.

My eyeball tape measure tells me that the wheel will stick out beyond the wheel well...front and rear. Knowing this, there are many variables that determine whether it will "fit".....what size tire, ride height, what look you are going for, etc.

My suggestion would be to find something with a higher offset. The 05+ mustangs used a +35ish offset so if you looked for wheels geared more toward these cars you will be better off if you are conservative with the width (maybe nine inches max). You can also find aftermarket wheels out there that have offsets in the 40s (which will keep the wheel under/flush with the wheel well) and will still hold the front dust cap....the two biggest challenges with putting wheels on these cars.

      my $.02,
      Sam

I was looking at some Konig rims last night. They have a lot in the 17 x 8 and 17 x 9 range, you can get 35mm or 40mm offset. The Konig dealer I talked to this morning had no idea what an SVO was, but when I gave him the dimensions of the stock rim, told him that 2005 - 2009 mustang rims supposedly fit pretty well, and told him the car typically has clearance issues with a lot of aftermarket rims, he recommended a 17 x 8, 40mm offset, for a 2009 Mustang. He said that would be the closest to factory wheel location and allow for a slightly wider tire.

I am thinking one of these two.

Watch the center hub. The SVO has a very large center hub, and it sticks out much farther than other mustangs.

That second wheel is sweet. Keep us updated on those.

BlueCASVO, Eric is correct on the hub diameter and depth for the fronts. I don't remember the exact dimension, but it is somewhere between 72-73mm. Best to test fit the rim before mounting to ensure it will mount on the rotors.

If I had to pick, the second rim would be my choice.

Dennis_lee, do some searching and lots of reading in this forum section and you should get a lot of your questions and potential questions answered. It doesn't hurt to ask to confirm something as well (i.e.- measure twice, cut once method).

Went to the local Discount Tire that said they had the Konig rims I wanted in stock. When we looked for 86 SVO in the computer, and cross referenced it with the Konig rims, it came up with a popup window that said something to the effect of while the rims are the correct offset, they would have to be machined to fit over the front hubs...found it interesting that someone had done their home work enough to know that fact, and put in the computer.

Anyway, with good tires the package ain't cheap - more than $1600 - so it's gonna have to wait a month or two. They look really cool, though!

I find it interesting it mentioning anything about having to machine to fit. I would have to believe that would void any manufacturer's warranty immediately and not even be allowed to be put into print.

BTW, what was the hub diameter on those wheels? Just curious.

I just ordered a set of wheels and tires from discount tire.
I used the 2005+ offset and 245/45 17 tires ....no need to worry about machining the hub I have the newer spindles
will be picking up on my way to Carlisle......I cant wait

The sales guy said 71, although I would still test fit/look at one to measure it before I bought anything. He had one on the showroom floor, I didn't think to measure it before I left. Machining that little of an amount doesn't seem like it would be a big deal, could probably get all four done so you don't have to worry about rotating wheels.
