  • '95 Cobra R Rims

    Ok,

I've read through every post about wheel fit and I'm almost dizzy!

I like the looks of a Cobra R wheel. I have stock suspension & do not want to modify a thing.

Can anyone tell me if the '95 Cobra R rim, either 17x8 or 17x9 will work for my '86 SVO without rubbing issues?

    If so, what size tires?

    Thanks,

Do they make a Cobra R in a 8" width?

In a word - NO - if you have people in the back seat or a load in the hatch - it will scrub on bumps. The fronts will scrub at full lock. Not to mention it will look quite silly (IMO) with Cobra Rs on a 4X4 suspension.

Actually you can get a 17x8 Cobra R. You can even get 18x9 and 16x8s too. Aftermarkets of course. Check out MM&FF.

i had 98 Cobra R's(17x 8.5) unless they started microsizing rim choices.. the only one's with mustang back spacing are either 17x8.5 or 17x9..forget aythin larger unless you start switchin suspension to a sn95 setup/ rolling the rear fender wells..

think i'm gonna get SVOpaul's Bullitt's pretty soon..

Heres what my SVO looks like, its been lowered with Eibach Sportlines with aftermarket 17x9s Cobra Rs. I love how it looks but its almost impossible to drive with anyone in back. So far i have rolled the rear fender lips, took and air hammer to them to widen the fenders a bit. This helped alot. Did the same to the fronts. I had 235/45R17s Continentals all around until i burned up the rear tires. Then i came up on some 350Z tires 225/50R17 Potenzas and slapped those on the rears. Rubs less now but still rubs with anyone heaviers than 100lbs in the back.

BTW: I still have cheapy shocks/struts all around and even with stiff springs too much bounce. I bet with Konis it be stiffer and rub less.

AFS (Autumn Fleet Sales) used to sell a 17" x 8" Cobra R replica wheel with a special offset designed specifically to fit the SVO. I don't know if they are still available, but you could give them a call.

Whut you guys think? Keep it stock 1B color or try out a new color? I was wanting to keep it looking factory colored so whut do you guys think about the newer Mustang gun metal grey?

why do people assume a 20+ year old car is going to be low maintaince? (even if it is a Ford)

I like the looks of those rims, just one thing -- the 5-star thing has been done TO DEATH

Eric, i thought my SVO was "BUILT FORD TOUGH!" = low maintanence. Kiddin, kiddin

When these wheels first started getting popular i LOVED em. I had to have a set ASAP. Its true tho, the 5 spoke is beat to death tho. Shame though cuz i really like it. I think it chages the look of the Fox bodys drastically. Im looking into possibly 03 Cobra rims, 5 star again rite?.................

Someone needs to make 93 Cobra "Fan Blades" in 5 lug and chrome. I would cash out for sure.

Izzy - -really -- I'm not busting on you specifically, just that lately, a lot of people are complaining that their 20 + year old cars have to be worked on a lot -- to which I say NO KIDDING!

and on the wheels -- Like I said -- I do really like the looks of them -- just it's been over done... Maybe some day everyone else will find a new wheel to go to, and I can get a set
