tire size question

What size tires does anyone have on their stock wheels??? I know they are supposed to be 225/50R16.
That is what is on the front, but the p/o has 245/50R16 on the rear. Tonight when i had friends in the back seat of the car the right rear tire would rub when I hit a bump. I know I could probably set the shocks a little stiffer(unless they are as stiff as they can be and are completly shot) but I like the ride quality it has right now. Does anyone else have a wider tire on the stock rims??? And do you have the same problems???

Still have 245/50R16's on a pair of my original wheels. Yep, they would hit the fender lip under full jounce, just like yours. I rolled my rear lips and took care of the issue.

I have run 245/45/16's on 2 of my cars (84 and 86) with no modifications (stock springs) and no problems.

I'd buy better tires before buying wider (than stock) tires. The stock wheels aren't very wide, and I don't like the feel of a wide tire on a skinny wheel, especially with my driving style.

I also wouldn't stagger the tire sizes unless you are prepared to tune out a lot of additional understeer.

We run 245s on our 86 at stock ride height. No rubbing, even with DOT-R rubber and sticky concrete surfaces.

I agree with getting wider wheels, as the car will handle better, but that may or may not be possible, depending on whether or not the car is strictly a street car, or combo street/track, and what class you run in. We can't change wheel size running our car in G Stock SCCA Solo II events. Although, if I was actively still autocrossing our car, I'd be looking for something a LOT lighter. Some of the squirminess can be taken care of with a little more air. That's what we do.
