        Extra weight

So based on the facts as presented, the third brake light added to the 86's accounts for the 36 pounds in weight difference between the 84 thru 85.5 models?

What did Ford add to the SVO in 86 that weighed so much more? Sound deadner? Thicker carpet? Damn that CHMSL is heavy. LOL

        Does anyone know?

All joking aside, that is a nice comprehensive spreadsheet.

that info was from the ford published specs. My bet is they weighed the 85.5 empyt, and the 86 with gas in it ??????

as far as I know, there were no changes in the amount of sound deadening,

that, or the SVO badges in the fenders of the 86 were pretty hefty too...

              Nice charts!

              Dear Eric/All,
Nice job with the outline! Weight differances could be the fuel suggested OR
could also be that the cars were slightly different in spec!
Of course the 86 with the 3rd light and harness adds a little but the fender emblems wouldn't add much!-but unless you know if both or either weight cars had illuminated visors and harness as well as slightly more rear fender undercoating (or added) you may not know.

P.S. I don't think you want to get into wiring harness differences for diodes comparded to multifunction components as changed in late 86.

I find it a bit wierd that the 85, and 85.5 weighed the same.

My bet is, the 85.5 weighed a bit more too (dual exhaust) but the specs weren't changed until 86.

the extra weight of the dual exhaust is almost identical to the weight difference listed.

                  Exhaust

                  Eric,

I bet you nailed it, on the additional muffler and tail pipe. That's what i get for putting any faith in the published info from FMC.

eric, i was wondering if the T5 in 84 was a world class to? also, it had the same gear ratio as the 85-86 turbo coupe?
...so you have a V8......isn't that cute....

                          Why more HP in 85.5?

Does anyone know why the '85.5 SVO has 5 horsepower over the '86 SVO?

                            just rumors. nothing proven.

                            1. Ford thought it would hurt sales of the V8 cars if their 4cyl was making more HP

                            2. different octane rated fuel used when testing

                            3. the 85.5's PEs had a secret programming over the 86 PEs.

all of it is probably Horsecrap. the two models are setup exactly the same ... except, some 85.5 cars actually had E3 exhaust manifolds on them....so go figure.
