  • How about a "Saved" Photo Section?

What are the chances of starting a "Saved" photo section similar to the parts photo gallery or Troy's / www.fordturbo.com carnage section? It could be the other side of that coin showing pics of SVO's we've found, saved, and restored instead of lost forever. I wouldn't want it to become an ongoing project thread but instead a before and after pics only. It would show to the whole internet viewing community that we're saving them and not just talking about it. We already have the "Wall of Shame" and we should have this also to be fair and to back up the mission statement. It could also provide inspiration to new members who might be thinking about starting a resto or possibly an old member starting to lose interest in an existing project. I nominate SilverSVO's 4E from the horse trailer as the first listing. We have plenty of SVO's to show the world and promote the club. Anybody agree with me?

Ken, I believe you bring up a great point.. We should have an aera for this.. I would second your idea.. We need to get the word out there that these cars need to be preserved.. SilverSVO's 4E would be a great example!!

I'm going to save another one next week (85.5). You will have to be patient for pics.

As an afterthought I should have probably consulted with the BOD first. I guess the idea was a knee jerk reaction to all the SVO's we've been losing lately. Sorry guys...

Ken, all you are doing is making a suggestion.. I don't think that that is wrong..

Aren't ALL SVOs at this point that are still running and driving with 100k + miles considered "saved"in some way or another?

Saved, Restored, Survivors .. all the same to me and adding section like this promotes two things. 1. More work for Eric. 2. If we make it member maintained, it can become abused. Thus wasting our bandwidth. I've gone thru about a half dozen that should have been parted. I'm sure Paul's been thru twice that many.

IOW - my vote is no on the additional section. Up to the other Directors to chime in now.

                I truely like the idea.

However, Bud is right, Eric is already taxed and responsible for a whole heckova lot going on with our sandbox here.

Its also one more reason to document cars in the registry. Perhaps a before and after entry....thats what I plan on doing with the 1D. Someone was kind enough to enter in the VIN and post a pic of her before I had bought it.....the next entry will explain her being saved and show a pic of condition when bought, and then after she is 100% i will enter in another.

Im not saying enter in an ntry everytime a bolt is turnned but before.after pics of a completed project are pretty cool IMO.

                  I'm not the BOD, but

I love the idea. Makes for inspiration for people who may want to consider saving one of these babies. besides, there are a ton of "save" stories out there that many of us don't know about. One example that comes to mind is Fripp's car in Canada, that frankly I (and probably many of us) knew nothing about till a few weeks ago. Might make for a nice calendar someday with all the before and after photos.

That being said, I'm not the one to have to maintain it and therefore can't comment on how taxing it would be. One thought is to have it be a sticky thread and have people make submissions with photos like we do at present. I suppose just the usual editing reprimands and periodic ear boxings to keep certain reprobates in line would be all that is required.

Let's just do it over at Troy's fordturbo.com site if he's into it?

We did a 'lost and found' section over at FEP that I think is pretty cool. I think it is along the lines of what you are talking about. Check it out: http://foureyedpride.com/fep_bild/album70?page=1

You guys just keep posting these in the lounge, the ones that are eye-catching, will get moved out to another area, so they don't roll off.

That's much less work, and easier on everyone.

I just checked out the carnage section over at fordturbo and I'm speechless. Its bad enough seeing one but the pictures just kept coming and coming.

I'm not out to make anymore work for anybody. I understand this is done in Eric's and the other members of the BODs spare time. I think the entries in the registry is a good idea and would give potential new owners a history to track but thats a members only section. I had wanted it to be visible to anybody and everybody. Is it possible to archive or just dump the reunions of 2002, 2003, and 2004 to save space? These sections are clearly the least viewed based on last dates shown. As far as maintaining it we as a club just need to understand there will be the occasional person who posts the "painted the oil drain plug today" pics. They would need to be reminded of the purpose for before, and after only pics. It also wouldn't be for things like changed the headlights and emblems but for wrecked, abused, barely or non-running SVO's that have been brought back to life as either a daily driver, show car, or even dedicated racer. Anyway I would like it to become a permanent fixture of the site.

I don't think anyone said space was the issue.

post the before and after stuff in the lounge, and the ones that need to be moved, will be.
In other words, make your post worthy, and it will be saved.
