    85 4e in progress...part duex!

And here are a couple of pics I received today. Not too much detail, but nice to see some work is being accomplished! The engine and tranny have been pulled and are being rebuilt to stock specs. Nothing fancy on this one. I want to keep it mostly stock. When I get back to the states I will have some powder coating done by the madatter and add a couple of personal touches.

            Quarter Panel

The Quarter Panel was replaced with an NOS piece. The hatch on the car was from a GT, I bought an SVO hatch and had it shipped to the body shop (Dont EVER do that..way to expensive!)

Well, I have decided to go astray of stock on the paint job after all. I am having the trim painted black instead of gray. Its just a personal preference. Hope I dont upset the SVO purists on this one. If I dont like it, a spray can of exterior dye is an easy fix! Also, I had the engine block painted black instead of gray. Its gettin' there!

The changes you have made from stock are easy to put back if you want or a future owner
remember it is your car...just it is best if the changes are easy to put back

BTW my engine block is ford dark blue

Are you sure that there's a difference? I thought the only differences in the hatches (not including the wing) were between years not models. 79-81 and 82-93

On a 'color' car like a 4E or 7B - where the color of the car is what sets it apart from the others, I would leave the trim the proper color as well. To me, it would different if it was a more common color - so forth. I just dont think it will be well received and you'll probably get tired of people questioning the trim color and if the car truely is a 4E or not.

It reminds of an early 85 that was painstakingly restored a few years back with the one exception being the owner didnt like the gray trim and painted it black. Sooo many people would question the reasoning for the trim color and even the year of the car.

Without getting into hole locations by spoiler types there was a change of an additional hole in the outer skin for the 3rd brake light wiring / grommet requirement from 86 to 93.

I'd stick with the grey as well... IMO the black would make it too dark looking.

                      Here is Bud's -> John's -> Roger's Hertz with Grey.

My Hertz will look this good someday.

Hey, that looks like my car Mark. Oh, that's right, you have one too. Grey DOES really look nice on the sage cars. It's your car, do as you wish, but grey seems to be a better choice. JMO Mike

I'll match your 86 and raise you a Hertz... HAHA

Although the Hertz currently has a little more grey on it than it should

Well, I have to agree with Robert that it's your car, and you should do whatever will make you happiest with it. However, I also have to agree with Bud in that it's rarity lends itself to a more stock appearance--especially if you want it's value to stay high.

It's funny though, I barely remember those stock wheels on my car, and I can't stand the stock shifter knob, so I swapped it with a chrome hurst stick, and once I put the chrome wheels on, I had to lower it too.

I'm constantly fighting myself to keep the car stock, but I'm pretty happy with it the way it is now.
