Lookie, lookie, what do we see:

Tonight it fired right up, let it idle for a while to bring up temp, then set the timing at 10 degrees. Runs good, idles nice, even took it for a quick spin down the road

Ok, so now what the hell is up with this:

I know I've got oil flow. When I primed the system, I pulled the oil feed to the turbo to verify. Also, after I shut off the engine, I can hear the oil draining back into the pan. So I'm almost positive it's electrical. The sender is newer (ie replaced when I rebuilt the engine originally back in '04) and the gauge worked fine the last time the car ran (on the way to the 08 Reunion).

I'm missing the harness that connects to this plug (still with the original short block):
Engine, * Engine electronics related posts should go here.

So I rigged up a temp wire from the sender and spliced it into the body harness. How does the oil pressure sensor work, I assume it's a variable resistor. Anyone have an idea on how to measure with a VOM?

      Good too see it running!

For the gauge i would put an aftermarket in just to be safe.

^ Thanks Rich, thanks Eric! Weird feeling driving it after sooooo long.

Never mind regarding the oil pressure gauge - I'm a dumb-a$$. I just went out into the garage and looked at the splice. I spliced it to the yellow/red instead of the white/red....

          I'll fix that tomorrow.

It is a variable resistor. When oil pressure is low, it will have a high resistance and vise versa.

Thanks Navy - it helps when you splice into the correct wire

                    • Back to square one....

Well - it's finally come full circle. Back in the fall of 2008 I started out with a running car that chewed up all the internal engine bearings and after this engine swap - I'm back once again to a running / driving SVO. It felt good to take it out for a quick spin today. Last night I painted the top of the cowl so I could finish up final assembly this afternoon. Even gave it a quick bath once I finished with the oil change, re-installation of the hood, etc. And, yup, I snapped a few pics:

Future plans call for some re-painting on the passenger side (note all the pics are of the driver side - that's on purpose) and the hatch. I've also got a set of replacement (used) spats that need to be painted and installed. But that's later this year. I've got an 86 GT Vert that needs some loving. So that's all for now with the SVO, this thread is now going

                      Thanks for following along

Thanks Roger. Not sure about Carlisle. I may just do like last year (drive down in the Tahoe and go parts hunting)...
