Bo dropped off the head this morning, new 2.1 cam, shaved to get the 9:1 CR. He cleaned it up, made sure the lash adjusters and everything were correct. We're supposed to get the shortblock from the machine shop next week. So we'll have all the parts for that engine next weekend.
Only thing keeping us from going now is the rebuilt turbo. 8 weeks and counting.
So just to keep everything in order
Engine in the car is a new ring and bearing mule motor build, it'll go into the '86 if it survives our newbie tuning skills. We'll use a stock t3.
In reserve is the completely rebuilt race engine.
Vrinner and Raven: Too bad, we'll work on our timing next time.

What a great day!! We took the long block, filled it with oil, primed it, tested the wiring for the coils and fuel injectors and then set about calibrating the sensors, set timing and tested whether or not the computer and the plug firing were in sync. We had a couple wiring issues, that were fixed pretty quickly. Than we had problems with the #1 firing 180 degrees out. That was probably a relic from the waste spark system. The big problem now a days is determing whether it is a hardware problem (ie hard parts) software problem ( the computer and its programming) or a wetware problem (our ability, or inability to understand what is going on). After trying to fix the problem with the computer, we realized that all we had to do was move the trigger wheel 180*. Conveniently, that's where the 36-1 wheel was slotted stock when it was used on the 1.9L escort. Problem solved.
This week we'll finish dressing the engine and figure to get it started next weekend.

We have a short block!!
The refurbished Bo-port ironhead is waiting with the new 2.1 cam.
The turbo is still not back from the "sponsor".
In related news, the AI director says we can run e85.
Now that might be interesting. Except of course you can't get it in Cali.
Looks like I'll have to mix my own blend of 100 octane unleaded with methanol. "my own special blend of kentucky blue grass and sensimillion (sp)" (In best Bill Murray imitation)
Henson can you spare a couple 55 gallon drums of e85? You live in corn country don't you?
Anyhow, we've been distracted by Scott blowing the begeebers out of his seriously hotrodded MINI. I'll have to take pictures of the pieces. We have a valve head, pieces of the seats and parts of the piston, and we haven't even taken the head off yet.
Do you still need water/alky injection if you run e85? Methinks not!!
It should easily cure the heat soak issues that the cars have. We'll set it up with two fuel maps, one for the e85, one for straight 100 octane.
I think I'll have another margarita and think up some more stuff.

Last time I checked (a few months ago) there were 4 e85 stations in California. The closest one to us was in Livermore.Originally posted by Horsewidower View Post

Greg: I might drop by, I'm going up to a MINI event in Grass Valley in the morning. I'll keep your phone number handy.
Thanks Pat. When I looked at the list on a internet site it said that a Chevron station in Rocklin might be getting ready to offer it. I might just have to mix my own. Of course there are two places in Sacramento that actually use it, SMUD the local utility district and the State of California garage. Maybe I can find out where they get it.
