  • Looking good in the engine. I'm assuming that the wiring in the drivers compartment is work in progress.
Hoping to get on the track soon

    • Oh yeah, very much.

      • PCV Valve

Are you running a PCV valve??? Can you even "not" have one??? How did you plumb it?

        • I have a breather tank system, which is not in that picture. I run the standard crankcase oil separater with a line to the breather, and a line from the valve cover to the breather. There is no connection between my intake manifold and the crankcase or valve cover.

So is it like the attached pic?

            • Exactly. My tank is 1 quart and the top has a filter to atmosphere. It's a cheapy Summit plastic tank.

              • You can do that? I’m a dummy please explain if you would. Why do the both go to the intake in stock situation? Bottom going to upper intake and valve cover going to turbo inlet. Sorry for the stupid question.

                Is this done for emissions?
How will Horse’s way effect my motor set up? I like it. It makes it simple. Please let me know.

                • I believe the stock way is for emissions, Mike would know that better than I. It's sucking the crankcase and valve cover vapors into the engine to be burned. I'm simply trying to provide ventilation on the racecar. When we go to a dry sump, we'll pull a vacuum.

                    It's emissions.
I got the lower crank case figured out. No problem. I get it.
What about the upper valve cover? That flows both ways. Maybe a trap vented to atmosphere. Sound good to me?

I think I'll vent both to the air. Heck I only drive a couple hundred miles a year. I don't suggest this for folks driving more than that. Save the planet.

Any pluses or minuses? Sorry for the dumb questions. Just thinking about the engineering, My bad.

                    • There are no dumb questions. Ask away.

The only reason I left the PCV in line on the crank case was that it was a convenient way to neck down the line size. I see no downside, from a performance standpoint, of venting to atmosphere, provided there is a filter at the breather. Removing oil from the intake track is a good thing. We had little to no oil in the breather even after 4 sessions on the track and all the tuning. I think we used -6 lines, we had a little valve cover leakage, so we might go to a -8, but I'm not convince that was the reason why it leaked.

                      • Well, we are moving slow. Geoff went down to the machine shop, the guy finally started. Block is just about done. Talked to Bo this weekend, he's going to bring the head up second weekend in May. It'll have one of his new cams in it instead of the 2277. Hopefully we'll have an racing engine soon.

The latest mule motor had the clutch and flywheel installed this evening. We'll get the motor in this weekend. Then we can start learning how to tune.

The AI director called and asked when we would be ready to go. I told them that we wouldn't be there until the fall.

                        • One more time.

One more engine swap almost complete. I'm starting to lose count!! We'll get everything hooked up and start testing the new wiring harness and begin calibrating the ECU this weekend.

                          1. the latest mule
                          2. the same old engine bay
                          3. Jay, my son, and Geoff working on making it all fit.
                          4. Geoff, settling her in.

                          • Given my statement that I'd gladly give up some of the hard parts that I've purchased in the last couple of years for some time spent learning about EFI systems, Scott and I are looking to go to an EFI university class in Temecula in July. Not that I really want to be in Temecula in July, hell no, but its time to learn more about tuning this beast. That seems to be the knowledge gap that is killing us right now. Maybe we can meet up with some of you guys in the area when we are there.

It'd be great to see you there.

                              • Man, this could turn out to be fun!! Sounds good, you going to stay in a motel near Temecula, or commute from your pad?

Anyone else want to give it a try?

Geoff and I just set down and went over when we are going to get back to the track. We're scheduling for June 28-29 at Sears. This week will be getting everything hooked up, wiring, plumbing etc. Next weekend, we'll have Scott try and get it to run.
