I'm not sure that we could do that up here in the snow!! Although it would be intresting to watch.. (something like drifting )

Not much has happened. They are concentrating on getting a friend's 67 Fastback out, so not a lot is going on now. They did put color on the inside of the 'glass hatch. Niiiice!! That's going to be a good color on the car! I also went over and replaced the steel front bumper support with the aluminum one I got a while back. I was having problems believing what I had was aluminum, until I pulled the stock one off. ;-)

Also got the door panels off the car. I will be selling those as soon as I can get pictures. The ones I pulled are nice, but I got a nicer set. I'll pass these on.

        That's all for now.

          side molding?

Again, went over and pulled more stuff off the car in prep for paint. Got the door side molding off the car all in one piece. While I'd like to find replacements, I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen. I think I have read somewhere on this site that others have pulled theirs, removed the aluminum backing and reinstalled them with success. I have searched, but am probably using the wrong search string.

Does anyone have the procedure for this? I'd like to try my luck.

          Thanks.

I have done three sets, re-used them anyways, it's rather simple..I got a thin blade knife and started on on edge of the moulding, once I got a little piece of the aluminum peeled up I used a pair of needle nose pliers to pull/twist the metal off.
After I cleaned them up with some paint thinner and applied the 3M double sided tape. I have had no issues at all once they were re-installed.

If you need any help on them, just shoot me a PM.

Sounds simple enough. I'll have a go at it when I get out there next. Unfortunately, I think I am missing one (driver's side, behind door).

Not a lot has happened lately. Holidays, holiday on-call, new company owners who laid off 30% of our workforce has increased responsibilities there. Plus, we're trying to get the new diff in the racecar before next event.

I peeled the metal backing off the side molding. That was easy. Gotta clean them now. I'm also working on removing the tape off the back side molding (the wide stuff that goes on the rear quarter panels. Other than that, I've been collecting trim parts.

I do include a picture of the underside of the new glass hatch. It has a coat of paint on it. It is about ready to go on the car. I guess I should pull the hatch support mounts and clean/paint them before we get the hatch on. Anyway, fresh Jalapeno red looks really nice! Enjoy!

Yep, I could see how that operation could end in disaster. Luckily, I was able to peel up a corner of the aluminum with a finger nail and then used some slip-joint pliers to roll the backing off until I could get my hand on the peeled portion to hold it and pull the rest of the backing off. Lots of opportunities to loose appendages with the whole operation. The rear quarter molding looks to be a bit tougher. I'll be taking that slow and steady.

Yeah, I can imagine the feeling, looking at the Doc in the emergency room, and asking "So, Doc, just how do you stitch over stitches?" :-)

Healing is probably a good idea.

I took delivery of the repro front bumper cover yesterday. Looks nice. I haven't had a chance to compare it to the factory one yet. Hopefully I'll get a chance to do that this weekend.

Wow. It's been a while since I've updated this. And, what a long project! The car's home, in our new shop. I got some time to work on it yesterday, and started fitting the new carpet. It's fit isn't perfect, I was getting frustrated with some wrinkles here and there, so I thought I'd just let it lay in the car and 'rest', hoping it would start to conform to the floorpan better. It looks nice laying there. I set the console in place and it seemed to help some bits around the transmission tunnel fit better. Time will tell. I'll probably not get time to work on it again until next weekend. I had to stop to clean some dusty parts and put a coat of paint on the screw heads.

Sometimes setting the carpet in the sun helps, too.
