  • Clutch of choice for daily driver.

Ive read all of the posts on clutches , seems Star Spec is the clutch of choice . I have slight mods, 65mm tb, Gillis mbc, Kirban fpr, K&N cold air, triax shifter, 2.5 dual exhaust cat back. Which clutch will work best for a daily driver? Want something thats not a real stiff clutch pedal but will last . Do most of the spec clutches chatter? What other parts would be good to change while all this is dismantled? bolts, seals, bushings, bearings etc. Any help is much appreciated Thank you!

I'd stick with a stock Motorsport clutch for a street car with mild modifications. However, I've not really heard any complaints on the SPEC stages I and II clutches in terms of pedal pressure.
My wife says it's a sickness...what do you think?

Motorsport for me, but I rarely drive mine and do not autocross. It's fine for me.

I have the SPEC Stage I. I felt no difference in pedal pressure or travel. My biggest chance was the aluminum flywheel and getting used to it, and I am one of the (un)fortunate ones who got the vibration with the aluminum driveshaft too.

I have the SPEC 3+ and the pressure is to lite. The pedal effort is almost non-existant.

It is holding well and has no issue with 4000 rpm launches. The first 300 miles the clutch had some chattering and grabbing but now it is nice and smooth.

SPEC ... and call them, they can set the pedal pressure to your preference. Good guys and they support the club.

Does it chatter, Chalky? I had a Stage II in my CSVT and it chattered a bit.

Mine didnt Ryan. I had a 2 and then upgraded to a 3 when time to replace it. Chattering isnt the clutch (unless you didnt break it in properly) as much it's probably a flywheel issue - usually oil in our cars.

Rich do you have a part number on the centerforce? How is it for effort, and ingaugment range compaired to stock...

For the little bit of driving I did in chalky's car I didn't feel any but it had a real narrow range where it either worked or didn't.

I dont have the part number handy...

The pedal effort is "medium" i used to have an 4 puck and that was a "heavy" and my old 86 bone stock was soft/light.

i have a 84 and they seem to engaged a little higher than the 85 86.

btw this is with a stock weight flywheel.

I don't think the motorsport clutch is available anymore for our cars. I tried replacing the disk last year on mine, and couldn't get it anywhere.
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

Rich, I'm not sure if it's the clutch, the ali flywheel, or the ali driveshaft (I'm assuming it's the driveshaft) but i do get some resonating frequencies when off throttle in 3rd or 4th. Not something I'm to worried about but......

As for clutch feel. I had mine pretty high up. When I had the gearbox rebuilt they adjusted it and it's much more user friendly now.

I spoke with Paul at SVPU a while back and he referred me to Hanlon Motorsports. He told me he had been encouring problems with the SPEC products in the form of vibration. He sid it was hit and miss if it would occur from one assembly to another.
I called Hanlon and they recommended a RAM assembly part number 98618. Comes with disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and alignment tool. Pilot bearing is not included.
