I'd read the tons of threads here already.. search for fuel pump upgrade or 255 in tank..or something related. the info is here in abundance.

I think you have what he asking about mixed up with running a different ground wire to bypass the resistor wire for the single in-tank pump conversion.
He wants to use a newer sending unit which has a different resistance within the wiper assembly.

Why are you wanting to use a later model sending unit?

level sender!!!! duh...you are correct, missed that.

all I know is you need a specific one because the resistance is backwards from the 87-93 to our models. you can still buy them new though, might be a better option.

You can still buy the correct ones new too! Just installed one in my tank a couple of weeks ago and it works great. Go to Latemodel Restoration Supply. I would suggest purchasing a new locking ring with the sender, too. It already comes with a seal.

One note on the new locking ring, mine were a little large in the OD, so I had to grind off a small amount to fit.

well the reason for the rewire is that when i put in the other NEWER tank i had i forgot to remove the svo sending unit and put it in the new tank and the factory tank has since been discarded. i feel like such a tool lol

new ones aren't that expensive, just make sure it's for 84-86 or your gauge will read backwards.. LOL

                hey there

This is for those who have purchased the new sending unit. I am in need of a new one myself my car didnt have the correct one in it when i got it. Ive tried to locate that site 50restore and locate the right unit with no luck. I get the site but cant find 84 -86 svo specific unit. Do you a part number or perhaps and link in the right direction? maybe both.....lol. i'll take a phone if thats all you got.

just have to search a little.. read this thread for the part number, then search online for that number, several places sell it. good luck

50resto is doing a new site or something..lots of parts missing of there.

im not having any luck finding the new sending unit. I keep getting told out of stock or discontinued. So would it be that difficult to change to a later style sending unit? if you had an 87- 93 send unit and a gauage from the same year shouldnt it work? I'd think that the wiring would be the same just you would need a guage that would to be able to unstand the signal from the sender right?

yeah, you can use the newer sender, it just causes your gauge to read backwards.

I really doubt it. Call 50resto and ask if they have them. They had them on their website before changing it, so they probable goofed it up and didn't relist it.

Also, have you called PPI? they are a club vendor

I called 50resto(late model restoration supply) and they told me that it had been discontinued. I also called John's Mustang in TX I ordered it up and then about five mins later they called me back said their supplier was out of stock and didnt know when or if ever they would have it back in stock. I haven't tried that PPI but I will. Think I may have had some 2.3 emblems bought for me one christmas from them. Thanks for the info navy.
