    Cam Oil Spray

I had the cam oil spray mentioned in this thread and have retaped the bolt now and will see if that fixes the problem. After fixing the tape issue was listeing to the engine running and I have a hollow slurping sort of noise resonating in the valve cover, no lifter noise, funny idle or other oddness. I wonder if I am being a bit paranoid but I don't remember hearing the noise anytime before. Oil level is full. Is there something I should be concerned about. I just pulled the plugs, all looked good, timing is 10 degrees. You can barely hear it with the oil cap on but when the oil cap is removed it sounds like someone is sucking the last bit of a milkshake through a straw. No sucking jokes please (Pat )

If anyone else has had an issue or heard this before, please pass on the experience.

    Bob

Maybe I was just lucky but the one or two times I have had the cam bolt out and back in I have not had any leaks that I could see with out using any kind of sealent. We are talking about the large bolt in the front of the cam that holds the timing belt cog on ,aren't we???

Just a suggestion and a word of precaution. Dont use tape, use some ARP thread sealer.

Tape can break and end up in the oil gallies / passages of the engine and disturb oil flow. Disturb it to the point where it blocks an oil feed line to a turbo.

One in a million chance, but I have seen it happen before.

I didnt say it happenned on an SVO and you are right i should have clarrified that. It unfortunately happenned on a 930. I was just making more of a statement that tape can break off and head into the engine elsewhere with greater ease than ( IMO ) thread sealer would.

And yes, through one of those TINY holes in the cam that you mentioned is what i would be more concerned with in a 2.3.

Clog one of those up with tape and lemme know what happens.

Anyways, do what ya want, I was just sharring experience. I'll stick to my thread sealer, you stick with your tape.

PS...if you dont use thread sealer like a 1st grader applying paste to an arts and crafts assignment, there probably wont be any problem "breaking off."

Not all thread sealers are hardening type.
