  • egr tube clearances.

i finally got the egr pipe onto my car. had to put it into the manifold, put manifold on, put into egr dashpot thingie, then bolt on dashpot thingie to manifold. there is stress on the dashpot thingie. my egr pipe is touching my firewall and is touching one of the heater tubes. can someone show me a pisture of what this should actually look like? i cant seem to get the pipe away from anyhting.

Kenny, have you tried loosening the fittings on the pipe at the manifold and the EGR valve and rotating the pipe forward so it fits closer to the motor?

i had it loosely installed on the manifold when i put it in, i did have enough to move it around. i thought maybe i could put a hold down strap on it, and try to bend it forward. supposedly it is from a 85. i didnt know if the bending was a good idea, didnt know if it would stress the intake too much.

I had to customise my EGR tub to work around my Tial wastegate. It helps alot of you have a mock up motor on an engine stand and the EGR tube is DAMN hard, but heat from a torch will make it a little maliable

well its so hard i couldnt budge it. im guessing if it would have, the tube would have folded over and cracked. i got my plug wires away from it, but the heater pipes are really close i bent one up to gain some space. maybe the engine sits back too far? is there enough slack in the motor mount bolt holes to pull the engine forward a tad? im not sure if the engine rocking around wil dent my firewall.

LONCHAIR, Do you or anyone else on here have a picture of a installed external waste gate on their SVO.

Here is a picture of all three stock EGR tubes:

              1. Top one is for the 84/85 with a inline intake

              2. Middle one is for a 85.5/86 SVO with a square bore intake

              3. Bottom one is for a 87/88 Turbo coupe

If you are using a 84/85 on a 86 type manifold, I could see why you say "the tube would have folded over and cracked". you should be able to tell which tube you are using from the pictures.

Set the plug gap to .030" to .032". Use Motorcraft AWSF 32C spark plugs.

i bought splitfires. i have bosch plus 4s on the other beater. they seemed nice at first.......but couldnt find them for the ford 2.3. im going to have to check the gap again, i cant remember what i set it at. thank you.

Get rid of the Splitfires and the Bosch"s. Run only Motorcrafts or Autolite 764's!

is that because of the heat ranges? or just preference?

It's because multiple electrode plugs don't work worth a s**t in our turbo motors. They don't work very well in regular N/A motors either. Multiple electrodes are just a bunch of marketing hype to separate the unwary from their hard-earned money!
