  • my '84 SVO cam...I like, but hmmm

I know the specs on my cam, I've ran searches, I've even recommended the RR cam to many (which I use in my LX) as a cheap upgrade over the stock cam.

HOWEVER, my SVO and my LX are entirely different beasts. My LX likes to be wound out, set up totally diff, has a T3/T4 hybrid, nothing stock on it at all, header, porting all the toys - so I can't really compare car to car to well.

I was wondering if anyone had an '84 'vo, close to stock, put in a RR cam and actually felt improvement or loss of performance? I've got a spare. I love the torque of my '84, love the powerband. If it will free up some hp, losing some parasitic drag from the slider followers, I'd do it. But I don't want it to change the characteristics of the powerband. I have the stock cam retarded 4 degree's. Awesome like that.

    Anybody been there/done that?

    Thanks for your input.

    You Should Test

I changed from the 84 cam to the RR and hated it, But I had a bad ring and more than likely that was the problem not the cam.
I have the 88 tc cam in the svo and love the low Have not dyno it yet to set all the timing and cam.
You have a great base line to test the cam.
Be a good weekend project for you and the strip.
Tell me when and I will come up and help.
Time to clean up the engine bay!
