  • Spark plug wire reviews here?

Wasn't sure if this belonged in engine, or product reviews... figure it'd get moved to where you wanted it.

What are the best spark plug wires for an SVO? I've got motorcaft now, per someones suggestion, but they are cracked and brittle already... I think they have a lifetime warranty, but I'd like to get some that I don't have to replace every year, and maybe will have less resistance. The Magnacores look beefy, and have low resistance... I also plan on putting some heat sleeves on the new set regardless.
What's everyone using, and what do you like/ dislike about them?

OH MY GOD!!! Your lasted so long that they cracked and got brittle?!?!?!?!?

Ok, here is my take on the Motorcrafts. They always work 100% of the time. They work good, but if you run a bigger gap , such as .0034-.0035 they seem to die early. I end up swapping ut my motorcrafts at every oil change and mabey every other one if I decide to push it. I only get about 6,000 miles on them before I can tell they are going bad. That tell tale high RPM stutter is a dead give away.

I run the Motorcrafts in my GT's and in my TC.

The KEM's I find are the best wire for teh dollar. KEM makes some outstanding parts for our engines and seem to be one of the only supporting manufactures that makes excellet quality parts. I have even compared 25,000 mile KEM wires to a brand new set of Motorcrafts and the KEM's blew the Motorcrafts away.

But the KEM's are a god aweful yellow, so they go on the wifes TC so I dont have to maintain it like I do my cars

Now just ask Gator about Taylors..............

Hmm, Maybe they are the cause of my cars bad idle... I kinda wondered if they were in that bad of shape on hte outside, that they might be deteriorating on the inside also. Guess it's time to trade them in!
I'd like to get some that come unassembled at the spark plug end, so I can slip some high temp sleeves over them to make them last longer.

Gator? Well? What about those Taylors?

Taylors are junk, or at least the set i bought.

And the only thing that has ever worked without problems are the POS autozone 8mm silicones.

Dont ask, i dont know why.

Yea, I went for the autozones in the beginning, but they didn't last... Then everybody said to use the motorcraft... Well, They don't last either... I'm on my 2nd or 3rd set... Seems like I go thru a set a summer. (I only put about 1-2000 miles on my car a year)
I guess I'll just go trade them in for another set and be done with it.

Hey, I'd like to test the resistance of the wires before I exchange them... What is the normal resistance on these wire?

I've had the Ford Racing wires (the big honkin 9mm blue ones) for about a year & a half now & they seem to be doing OK.

I can take my Motorcraft wires back to the Ford dealer with a receipt and they'll replace them? Please say this is true!!!

Well, maybe... From what my parts guy told me, Motorcraft wires used to have a lifetime warranty, but don't anymore... He said he would discount me a set because mine only lasted 1-2 years. They list around 52 bucks... He's giving them to me for 30 bucks... I haven't decided if that's the way I want to go or not. I'd like to get a set that I don't have to replace every year or so. Especially since I'll be driving my SVO more now that it's show quality.

Does anyone know a set of unnassembled wires that are equal or better than the motorcraft so I can put heat sleeves on them before putting the boot on?

SVOHOO... What are the numbers for the Ford Racing (or Ford Motorsport?) wires? Are the specific to the 2.3?

                  Indy,

The part number is M-12259-C112. They are made to be cut to length and assembled. A little soap & water helps, and the right crimp tool. I think they're worth the effort. Also, get a couple of the matching wire dividers.

Okay, so from what I see, there are about 5 types of wires from KEM.

So question is: Which ones are you using, and how long are they lasting?

                      Types:     Perfect Value    11-4076X

                              &n bsp;      MSW       &nbsp ;        & nbsp; 1810

                              &n bsp;      Power Tech       &nbs p; 21810

                           Silver Shield Silicone       11-4076S

                              &n bsp;    Mag-Plus Silicone      11-4076M

Please advise, as I would like to try these...

                        Indy,

I would check with club guys first, like Paul (SVPU) or Jim (Motion Dynamics). Otherwise, anyone who sells Ford Racing parts should be able to get them, like Mustangs Unlimited, or CJ Pony Parts.

Wow, every oil change? we must be doing something right then. We have almost two years on the Motorcrafts we put on our 86, and they show no signs of deterioration, and always a decent idle. Maybe it is the diaelectric grease we use at each end, hmmmmm.

I have been running Magnacore wires on my 84 SVO for the past two years with no complaints. They are a bit pricey, however. Perhaps not when compared with the cost of several sets of other plug wires that some go through over time. Anyway, I do like mine.

I always buy an accel universal v8 set. $24 for two sets of wires. I change them and plugs roughly every six months, and have had no problems. I bought my svo after a recent tune up including motorsport wires. I chased an infrequent miss for months. Turned out to be the new motorcraft wires.
