  • Need help installing intercooler and BOV

My SVO is completely stock. What I was going to do is buy a used front mount intercooler and fabricate it to fit. I was going to then install a blow off valve in the piping. My question is where do I connect the hose of blow off valve to? I was just going to use tubing and clamps to connect it all together. I don't know too much about blow off valves so any help would be appreciated.

a blow-off valve just vents into the atmosphere --

so you have one hose connected anywhere along the line between the turbo, and throttlebody, usually you want it close to the throttle body.

I would advise against a BOV. IMO it is better to use a BPV (by-pass valve). Instead of venting to atmosphere, it will vent back into the intake of the turbo. This will keep your turbo spooled up and get back into boost sooner between shifts, etc. You want it as close to the throttle body as you can. (before it)

The reason I want the blow off valve is so that I can hear the noise it makes. I know that a by pass valve is more practicle but I have always wanted a BOV. Is it pretty easy to install the BOV with new piping and intercooler? Will I have to drill a hole in between the turbo and throttle body?

Well why does almost every turbo charged car have a blow off valve instead of a by pass valve?

The same reason there are plenty of cars that aren't even turbo equipped that SOUND like they have a PBV....

I think if you do your research you'll find that actually most DO NOT. I don't know of ANY that come that way stock...especially if it's not rice...(VW, Porsche, Audi, etc.)

I think the sound of listening to them bitch because they lost to a four cylinder, and all the excuses....sounds WAY better than a BOV

                  Do what you want.

There are a few that run the BOV and have very little trouble out of it. 140cilx runs a 2 stage BOV.

I have used 3 or 4 of the bypass valves and ended up with the volvo cast iron one, it is 1" and I can hear it very well inside the car.

I like the sound of the air screeming back in the turbo.
I also have a straight pipe out the side of my car.
                  Hear the noise!!!!!!!!

I run a BOV, and I like it. infact I got the loudest one out there. heres a question for you, why wouldn't you want to hear it? who cares about the sleeper factor. truth is svo's have no sleeper factor. they have a hood scoop, and a second set of wings. and are mustangs. doesnt get too much non-sleeper than that. people still complain about loosing to a 4 cylinder, even with the BOV.

I have a BOV on mine, and love the sound as well. I agree with stangerjon, the car does not look like a sleeper.

Unless you're running an aftermarket ECM, the SVO was not designed to have metered air go un-accounted for, ghey Poosh noise or not....

                        To each his own.

why wouldn't you want to hear it?
Because I'd much rather have something that works correctly, than to have something that 'sounds cool' (your opninion)

I personally think it sounds stupid, and if it weren't for the functionality of it, I wouldn't have one at all. (I have a bypass)

I got a better idea -- just go buy one of the little speakers on ebay for like $40 --(much cheaper than a real BOV) and you can put a little button on the dash, and you can hear the sound whenever you want.

This ain't a ricer forum, don't expect people to like things that don't work, and just look (or sound) cool. next thing you know, you will take the bi-wing off, and mount one of these

well, hmmmmm. I guess my BOV doesnt get rid of compressor surge between shifts and such. and it is one of the ones that work correctly on our set up we have on these cars. so something that is functional like that I wouldnt consider to be a ricer mod.

I asked for help on installing a BOV, I didn't ask for your opinions. If you don't have anything to say about installing it then don't post. And how is getting rid of extra air not functional?
