  • bad motor or bad shop help me out ?

ok heres the story i bought my 86 al svo about 3 months ago and ive had problems from the start when i first drove the car before buying it it ran really well (im not a mecaninc) a few days after the car dyed on me the bottom end of the dizzy was eatean up and so was the auxilary shaft . now that, thats fixed the car still has problems i put the pedal to the floor when the cars in nutraul or in any gear with no rersponse. the trottle body is wide open and the rpms dont move at all. after stompmg the gas about 10 times it will respond but as soon as i release the clutch i can once again stomp the gas with no response? i have recipts and papper work on a motor that was rebuilt about 5 years ago. im having the compression checked today to see if everything is good . but im starting to have 2nd thoughts about the shop were my svo is at .the shop is telling me i might have to rebuild the motor? ive only put 40 miles on the car since i owned it .

Sounds more like a throttle cable problem? Maybe a bracket is loose or the cable is binding / not properly installed after the rebuild? Just a couple of guesses.

thats what i thought so i opened the thrtottle manually from under the hood with no response? at first i thought it might be the IAC(the part attached to the throtle body?) so i know it not the cable

Did anybody stuff shop rags into the openings on the turbo or the intakes to keep stuff out and maybe forget to remove them? There is a member here who shall remain nameless who did this... if he wants to come forward that would be his decision. Try pulling the intercooler and look into all the inlets / outlets on the turbo, IC, and TB.

Any chance it's the TPS?? if you unplug it, the engine won't usualy rev at all.. i had this problem on an older F-150, replaced the TPS & everything went back to normal.. Just a thought..

no rags have been used so i can rule that one out . ill get a new sensor to see if thats the problem . but it bothers me that the shop is already considering rebuiling the motor as a option ?

Check out some local mustang clubs. The Diablo Valley Mustang club is in your area and has several SVO owners who may be willing to help you find the problem.

Start from the begining. IF the timing is off that will cause some of this. Vam unpluged?
Check everything from the airfilter to the intake. open it and look inside. Check timing, vacumn lines. Leaks?
Its easy to get the timing off on these cars. The dist gear is a beast for many of us.
Spend alittle more money and buy a code reader for the car. Autozone $19 This will get you started.
Time to clean up the engine bay!

I might be off here, but is the SPark-OUT plugged in and is the wiring from the TFI solid?

If so, I would check the belt timing and then bring 'er up to TDC on Nr 1 Plug and take a peek under the distributor cap to check the rotor position.

yes it does iedals at 1k even.
when im at a stop sight ill release the clutch and put the pedal to the floor with no response . then after stomping down a few time the car will get rolling and eventullay start driveing normally but the hole time under 3500 rpms the gas pedal is to the floor with no reponse from the motor. once it get about 3500 rpm ill let off the gas a bit .

im staring to think it a air or fuel deliveray problems cause the car maxes out at 80 mph with the pedal to the floor in 4th gear
