  • Oil Seperator

Hi all, well this is one i've been working on for a while, like...whats new!!!! Anyways, a while ago lonchair posteda bout an oil seperator he had built and since i was getting oil in my intake, which I hate, I though I'd do the same.

I found some decent sized aluminium tube in the metal shop at work and machined some end caps from some scrapbillett which I then drilled and tapped for the fittings I bought at the hardware store. I welded one to the bottom, the top one is held on with three allen head screws and the flange I welded on. I'd been looking for a good place to put it, I'd orginally intended to put it where the BCM goes but it's to big, and decided to attatch it to the frame rail. I had to move the charchoal cannister forward and drill some holes but found another use for my new rivet nut kit.

The hosing (5/16' fuel line) follows the A/C lines to the valve cover so as to keep it out of the way of the hot exhaust. For those interested it is filled with varying grades of steelwool with a couple of layers of wire mesh and then a piece of scotchbrite over the outlet hole. The inlet has a pipe which goes near the bottom of the tank for proper circulation of air.

Now to see if it works.

Now that's creative. Wasn't there a Ford Service Bulletin on how to fix oil being sucked into the intake? Did you try it before making this?

The technical service buliten involved the installation of an oil separator onto the 84 SVO breather tube mounted on the top of the valve cover. Later cars, such as the 85-86 SVOs and TCs came with these already in place.

Chris' unit looks to be industrial strength! Please keep us all informed as to how it works. Nice job!

Sounds like there is excessive blowby. Perhaps the rings aren't sealing too well. Maybe a cylinder leakdown test is in order. It might be time to start thinking rebuild.

Ah! Thanks. Maybe I need one of those thingies then. When I swapped my injectors last month I saw oil in the intake but it looked old and caked on like it had been sucking it in for a while. I found the TSB in the console of my car but it doesn't look like anyone ever installed it.
