Does anybody know if there is a manufacturer of a water to air intercooler for the 2.3 SVO engine?

    Thanks, 8T6

are you asking for a 'specific pre-fabbed kit' that built to fit 2.3 applications?

        Yea,

I've heard good things about liquid intercoolers and know they are becoming more prevelent. If there is a system that can be easily installed and reliable - I would be very interested in one.

Don't the 2003 cobras come with a liquid intercooler now? If Ford can put one into production, I assume they are becoming more reliable (unlike the homemade versions I've read about).

Thanks for the link Bud - That's the kind of info I'm looking for. It sure would be nice if someone offered a pre-fabbed kit.

for the $600 price tag - that kit (in the link) better be 'pre-fabbed' click on the 'AWIC" link on the side menu.

It appears as though there is an updated price list now - $300 for a water to air intercooler for the "SVO". or "Turbo Coupe" style connections. Don't know if it is complete - I'll ask.

They are pretty easy to make if you know anyone handy at welding aluminum. It just depends on how often and what you want to do with it.

Mine was supposed to be done ....ohhh about a year ago, but more important things found their way to my door.

The one I'm building will be for drag-race only and will not have a radiator.

Basically all it is, is a TC IC, that is totally enclosed. The water is provided from a cell of some sort packed with ice water. A bildge pump ( from any boater supply store ) will provide the feed to the IC.

Now, the only problem is that you better keep an eye on the ice...cause once its gone that water will be pretty warm, and that will lead to detonation seeing as how the air to the throttle body isnt being cooled anymore. ( in a radiator style this is not a problem. )

For the time and money invested ( minus all the "pretty" fittings ) it will be one cheap way to an easy 20 rear-wheel HP.

                    Liquid IC

Gator, I have a friend that has this wicked boat (something like a Warlock) with a 8 liter motor and a supercharger. He switched out the intercooler with a liquid one and states that he produces as much power at 5 psi now than he use to at 9psi. This guy is a service director at a large Ford dealer in my area and really knows his stuff (experienced in boats, cars, and the such). I want a liquid intercooler and one that works right. Do you know what type of intercooler the 2003 Cobras are running?

um yea.. it is really easy on a boat... -- can you say unlimited supply of cool water ..

                      That's cheating!!!

                        Cheating

Yea I know - but it works! And works well. Thats why why I would be interested in finding a really efficient one. Oh, I found out that Bud was right on the price - $660 for a complete set up. The SVO set up is about $100 less expensive because you don't have to rotate the turbo or use the turbo adapter.

Nahh sorry, i was banned from test-driving cars at pretty much any ford dealership here....but thats a damned good question.

You might want to look into the Vortech aftercooler....its been proven many times.

                            On the right track

I've got one! I beleive it is far superior than the air to air stock or TC models. It was filled with some sort of a glycol solution with a small circulating pump and coil mounted in front part of engine bay with a couple of tie wraps. It should have been mounted out front.

It was an ugly install. (actually it looked like an Ole Miss engineering graduates design) I was too lazy to spend the time to repipe and make it look presentable so I decided to install the stock IC.

The car put out 21 lbs of boost. When I installed the stock unit it put out 18 lbs with no other mods.

BTW the Hubers use an ice bath for their IC, that should tell us all something!

Great info on the Vortech site. This units are expensive - $1500 + battery relocation kit. It makes the $600 kit not sound that bad. Dealing with a company like Vortech does sound bad either thou- there must be more.
