Just to back up Mr. Fleming (as if he needs it
) I had a discussion with Bo Christman at http://www.bo-port.com/ about changing my iron race head to solid lash adjusters now that the engine is out of the street car. He told me not to waste the money if I wasn't going to turn it over 7500. Apparently he has customers that are running it to about that range, with the Essy 2277, without any problems.
So spin away. Looks like you should look at replacing the stock rods first. The crank should go to around 8,000. I think Esslinger states 7,800. I've seen some other rules of thumb that would net you about 1000 rpm more.
For a low cost spinner, change the rods and zing it to 7,500, just don't expect to put a lot of miles on it.

i foresee pulling the engine each winter to check up on things. have 2 other longblocks (NA) that will be getting all the goodies thrown at them when time and money allow. Thats the main reason im trying to limit my expenses on this endeavor.
