  • Ultimate Exhaust?

I've got an appointment to talk with the guys at Kooks about fabbing up a new exhaust for my 86. I plan on doing it all up in stainless and most likely, 3" front to back one sided 3" hiflow cat, Kooks 3" straight thru muffler and maybe an electronic cut out before the cat....and possibly a flex pipe if I can fit it all.

Anyone have any advice for me? I plan on this being the last exhaust this car ever gets (or so I hope)...the car will eventually get an upgraded head/cam, maybe a turbo, FMIC....but nothing too radical, I can't see more than 350hp ever on it.

    Thanks

Sounds like you have what you want already picked out. It should all fit up there but you will need a small cat and a short flex pipe, that is if you go straight out. if you cross over 84 style than you have a ton of room. On my car the ground clearance is the tightest right under the trans brace. that is where my flex pipe is. if I moved it back 6 inches I would pick up another 1.5" of clearance.

Take pictures of it while it's on the rack up in the air. I'll have to see it to believe it that they can mount a 3" bent exhaust pipe over the rear axle. Especially SS., but anything is possible!

Any "fox body" should be able to have 3" over the axle if done correctly.. I know of several that have it with no clearence issues.. Even on a slightly lowered car it will fit!!

I have that too on one car. I also have dual 3" on an 86 9L and a 3" on an 84. I prefer the truck style slip joints with strap clamps over the ball and socket arrangement. Make sure the exhaust fabricator includes an easily removable section for when it's time to replace the clutch.

No. not yet. The rebuild budget and time wouldn't allow for it yet. Maybe by next reunion.
