I have been looking to get a full 3" exhaust. I took my car by the muffler shop the other day and the owner said he would run a full exhaust form the turbo out for under $100 if i provide a muffler. This is mandrel bend aluminum pipe. My question is should i buy a pre-fabed 3"dp or should i save some money and let him run the whole pipe for me?

Re: 3" dp/full exhaust question
depends on the quality of his work. For the little money he's charging - I'd questioned his skills & warranty of work - particularly - what will he do if you're not happy with the end product. Otherwise - it's your call.Originally posted by drewkeen

I've got an 85 and I was looking to do something about the cat and the pre cat back set up. I looked around and by chance I found a direct fit system from the turbo up untill the after cat flange. www.car-sound.com is were I found it. It increased my power with its high flow cat and it's manderal bent tubing. I love it. It also had no problem passing SMOG. The part number is # 23363. Call them at 1-800-990-0905.

I've never seen anyone mandrel bend pipe that cheap ---
crush bend, sure... all the time no problem....
Mandrel bending machines are VERY expensive...
and if he was buying the bends and putting them together... even from jc-whitney, without shipping, a single 30 degree bend is almost $20 ....
Sorry.. something just don't add up...
I could be wong-- but it just don't sound right...Eric C

crush bend has the bumps in it right? I've seen his machines and they dont have kinks after being bent. He is a friend of the family and I have given/refered a lot of business his way. He also said it was mandrel bend. I hope it turns out well, if not i gues sit wont be the first time i tried to save money and messed up...'71 Pinto

How exhausting
A mandrel bender has a flexible insert that goes inside the tube to stop it from collapsing during the bending process. If he does an exhaust that cheap for you and it's good quality, thats a blessing.
Folks here should want to bug you to get him to do a quantity deal if that exhaust works out. If the parts could be made in short enough lengths to be able to ship economically, I'd consider buying.

Crush bent
Drewkeen,
I think the 'bumps' you are refering to are the 'ridges' or 'ripples' in pre-bent systems that aftermarket exhaust pipes come with. At exhaust shops (I used to work at Midas) we would sometimes use pre-bent stuff and sometimes bend our own, but it wasn't 'mandrel' bent.
Either way, ask him if you can look at some tubing HE has bent, if the diameter of the pipe decreases across the radius of the bend it is NOT mandrel bent. I'm not saying he's trying to snooker you, but even in the industry some people don't know what 'mandrel' bent means.
