The switch could be shorted. The switch gets hot when the driving lamps are on, and no relay has been installed. In many cases these switches can be repaired if you know alittle about taking little things apart, and cleaning up contacts. Just avoid using the lamps too much, or install a relay. This has happened to most of us here.

As Chris mentioned there is no relay in the factory stock circuit, which is why a lot of switches get melted when current draw runs up. I installed a relay and fuse to power the fogs and the switch is now insulated from the main current. The likely cause for the increased current, if you still have 55W bulbs, is corrosion between the bulb base and the contacts. Poor contact creates arching, which raises the current draw, which destroys the contacts, like the ones below. I made my own little metal clips out of light gauge sheetmetal to keep the contacts from arching...17 years and no issues. Good luck on yours.Originally posted by mjdwindshield View PostThanks for the info, I forgot which way the switched worked and that it lit. Nothing works so my first thing to look at is fuse if thats ok then there must be a relay somewhere right?Ted

Are you coming to the Reunion?? If so, just bring them along and I will bring along what I need to make the clips rather than shipping your units.Originally posted by Otto Man View PostVery nice job.
I'll send you my two back-ups for your upgrade design.Ted
