  • Re-Paint

I have a 1985 White SVO. The gray trim around the windows is starting to rust, so a repaint is in order. The front bumper at one time has also been repainted and I guess wasn't properly prepped because its cracking badly. I was wondering what it would look like to paint them all white to match. Does anyone have any thoughts or pictures of a similar job? I don't think I would paint the spoilers, but I think it may look good to have everything previously gray be white (window trim, door handles, mirror trim, bumpers, ect). Thanks - Mark
    I'm 21 and I've owned 3 SVO's... Yeah I like 'em.

I think the car shown in your avatar (around the doors) shows a pretty good example. Just picture the whole car looking like the side of yours presently. The "monochrome" look, I think is pretty cool...I think it depends on how much "purist" is in ya.

      LAB RAT...

In my opinion it will look really sweet.

I do have one suggestion however. Leave the window trim and mirrors charcoal grey. If you paint the window trim white it really draws attention to the door frame.

Styling wise, the reason ford painted the window trim on all 87-93's black is to give the car cleaner lines and a more modern look. The idea was to make the side windows blend with the quarter's.

Go for it on the door handles and bumpers, the wing too if you like. I'd leave the window trim alone though.

Yeah I was thinking that it might be too much to do it all anyway. As of now I don't plan on painting the spoilers unless I find some that have already been painted for cheap so that I can keep my origonal ones. The only thing is, if I leave the window trim gray, it still needs to be repainted. Is this the same gray as on normal mustangs and as such readily available, or is it "SVO gray" and having it mixed would be necessary? Thanks for the input - Mark

Personally, the monochrome look went out with the 80's and I dig the contrasting colors of the paint & trim. Although I do dig it when the spoilers are painted the color of the car.

However, its your car, and you can do whatever makes you happy!

Fwiw, I just repainted my 84 9W in color and instead of using a semi-gloss back trim I went with full gloss black and like it alot.

Here is a white car with the mono look.

Well at least in silver I don't see a problem with it all being one color. The white (which applies to me) isn't quite the same. What am I saying, that makes me wish mine was silver. Awesome car. What kind of wheels?

I would paint the mirrors body color. They blend in nicely rather than stick out in black. They look nice painted on the McLarens.

With our powers combined may we drive out the evil that is Honda and rid our country of it forever.... Funny story - just today I overheard some kids in the school parking lot making fun of my hoodscoop being offset to the side and how it looked wierd. They then proceeded to hop into a mid 90's honda with unpainted groundeffects and one of those super cool 2 ft tall aluminum wings. The way I think of it, their lack of any style merely makes those of us who have it look that much better.

You might want to look at www.triplewhitefox.com , an owners site for the 1993 limited edition white on white convertible. Most of the trim was white on it as well as the interior and the wheels. There's one in our town, and it's pretty snazzy looking. There's still some black trim around the windows.

Don't get me started about rice-burners. We used to go to the club day drags at Woodburn with our 94 Cobra and about 75 other real muscle cars and hot rods would show up, then one year they let the exports come in. About 300 showed up, all running 16-18 second quarter miles and taking FOREVER to get through the line! You should have seen them all pulling out their interiors and everything so they could shave off a little time (which should have been even more embarassing to them, running so SLOW) Next thing we know they cancel club day in favor of import drag day. Well, I guess I can't blame them, those kids were paying the bills. Still sucked. I told the hubby we might take the SVO to PIR drags next year, but he said not if he has to sit and watch those stupid Hondas crawl down the strip while we're waiting our turn!

Wow, triplewhite stangs, never knew of em till now! (Sorry just got my SVO 4 months ago!)

I know Honda's aren't that great but not all imports are "rice burners".

My Mazda MX-6, my previous turbo car, is a great lil non riced out car. It beat its share of 5.0's at the track (although I am ashamed to say, the interior was gutted lol).

The Japanese CAN put out some amazing vehicles.

My SVO was painted by the previous owner himself in the original 1C black. He painted EVERYTHING gloss black. Spoiler and all. I think it looks great. Stock wheels were replaced also by a PO with 16inch chrome Cobra wheels. Looks good, I just wish I had a set of stockers to return to stock if I decide to in the future.

                              shannonlujan,
There's a difference between an import and a "ricer"...
Personally, I hate ricers, but love some imports.
One of my favorite cars is the new 350Z.
But taking a 4 door civic, and trying to make it cool... is not cool.
It's an economy car... that's it.
tacked on wings, neaon lights, adding a 50 shot to a stock engine, stickers all over the car, etc... make it a ricer.
Hmmm. did some of the SVO's at the Reunion of big stickers???
                              well, maybe... but they're cool.
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!
