I had a local shop strip my headliner board, glue on new material, and clean my front seats for just $75. It sounded good to me. I installed new carpet for the first time without problems and put up my headliner at 1:30 in the morning before my first car show. I thought that it turned out good and people say the headliner looks factory.

      For the headliner.........
      50resto.com

      139.99 for the whole headliner
      49.00 for the vinyl material
      $5.00+ for the adhesive
I would buy the pre-made piece in a second if it came with the sunroof pre-cut. I'll give them a call and find out if that is possible. I'll hold off on the carpet until I get paint done.

I'm trying to find an alternate company that can prefab seatcovers. So far, Katzskin is the only one I've only found that may have the pattern. When I find out, I'll let you guys know.

It also appears that my passenger seat sits "tilted". From what I've read, this is caused by a broken support within the seat and not uncommon. This needs to be repaired as well.

walt just pull out the old headliner and use it as a template for the new one. It is not that hard of a job.

I thought about that, but I'd hate to be off by a 1/4 of an inch and screw it up. Then I can kiss $139 goodbye and feel stupid at the same time.

With any luck, it's marked for a sunroof on the unfinished side. If that's the case, I'll use a dremel and carve it out.

            tools

Walt all you need to install is a new blade a metal straight edge and a sharpie. If you take your time it is a real easy install. I would rate it 2 on a scale of 1-10.

              Hmmm..

Or maybe take a road trip South where things are affordable.

For the green car with the E&G kit - installed for $150. Headliner, I removed it and took it to them. They cleaned it and applied a very close match in cloth; $25 and I reinstalled it myself.

The front seats (no back seat) I have it in my 9L right now, think I paid $250 for him to make covers out of the cloth I supplied. The headliner - they did the entire job; $60.

You're getting ripped with those prices you listed.

It only cost me $100 to have the E&G kit installed. Did the carpet myself.

yea walt -- this guy sounds like he thinks a lot of his work.

OR -- he don't really want to do it, so he's pricing it so high, he thinks you won't hire him to do it.

He does nice work and did a great job on my buddy's '64 LeMans bench seats. It also took him 4 mos to get them done.

As for wanting the work? I dunno. I'm running across alot of that lately; both mechanically and cosmetically with this car.

Is it the uniqueness of the car? Or do they make more money doing simpler stuff to newer or more expensive cars? My regular mechanic avoids anything hard (like rebuilding the rear axle). He's actually told me to sell the car on more than one occasion.

Seems that this type of business practice is a$$ backwards. If I want something done, just charge me for it. The last time I checked, my money was still green.

The Hatfield Tee Top car that I took to the '05 Reunion needed the drooping headliner fixed before Bonnie and I left with it. The Colonel and I dropped it off to a top shop in Mississippi. They repaired it immediately for a whole ten bucks, and ordered replacement fabric to redo the whole thing with new at a later date.

Walt, why not call some other nearby areas for quotes and use the money you save as a vacation trip to get it done?

I agree that the quotes you got are totally out of line.

The guy I bought my car from paid $700 to have the E&G Seat Covers installed at some shop in Austell, GA. I have a reciept showing it. They look real good. Maybe that's why he took it to them. Still sounds like a lot of money just to install leather seat covers though.

That wouldn't suprise me. I dropped off a set of rims and comp tires off once down there for mounting. Never thought about asking 'how much'. Ended up costing me $250!! I gathered up my wheels/tires, gave the guy a wave with one finger, and left.

WaltM - 4 months to do some seats?!?!!? RUN! Find someone else and forget this yahoo for pete's sake. Yeah, your buddies seats look nice. So does everyone elses work who are professionals in the upholstry biz.

$250.00 for mounting and balancing? That's insane! I've got one for you...

I bought BRAND NEW Bullit knock-off rims w/ BRAND NEW Conti Extremes for my '01 coupe. Had them dropped shipped to a "recommended installer"

When I returned to have them placed on the car, ALL 4 RIMS WERE DAMAGED! He claims that a customer backed into them.

He had the damage on the rims polished out, but it wasn't the same. Needless to say I'm not taking anything back to that guy again.

As for the interior guy? I'll have to check out some other local shops. But it doesn't look promising. The next closest shop prides themselves on their work w/Mercedes, Porsche and Audi. Doesn't look I'll get a deal from him either.

last year when I got my hood and front bumper cover painted I took it to guy who originally painted the car. When I asked him how much he said a couple of hundred bucks, so i am thinking 2 or 300. right. Wrong, after all the painting was done he said I owed $1800. Needless to say we went round and round and settled for $800. Nothing like a good screwing to make your day!

With the exception of the machine shop I used, just about everything else automotive related in this general area is WAY overpriced. My muffler fell off my truck last week and one shop quoted me $200 to replace the muffler and tailpipe. My regular exhaust shop did the same job for $125.

Bud, what's the name of the place you had your interior work done at?
