  • MSW Type 21 wheels

    Hi Ron,
Thanks for all the info. It's very helpful. The engineering department at tirerack.com will guarantee that a MSW Type 21 wheel that is 16 x 7.5" will fit the car without any alterations. They also said I could run the stock 225/50 VR16 tires without any rubbing. I may just consider those wheels or look into getting my stock wheels refinished. If I go with the MSW wheels, at least I will already have new stock size tires that can fit on my stock wheels if I decide later to try a bigger wheel.

    • 255/45/ R17 on Bullitts do not fit with ford B-springs. They fit before you lower it and while bald. I replaced the tires with the same size the car already had, lowered it and it rubs all the time. Not bad enough to cause damage but it's really annoying. You can see that the front is really close. I have the isolators installed too

      • MSW Type 21 Didn't work

Got the MSW Type 21 wheels and the back ones fit well. Front ones didn't clear the grease cap. So, tirerack.com took them back. Even with a 5/16" spacer on the front, the wheels would not fit unless grease cap was removed. Back to square 1. Now considering just getting my stock wheels refinished.

        • you didn't consider a different center-cap ?
I'm running a different cap with my 2005 bullet wheels, and they work fine on the front.

Any rubbing or fitment issues with running these wheels? My suspension is stock. What price are you asking for the wheels? What condition are they in?

Both of yall need to take this to a PM conversation. This is the TECH area and not the Classifieds.

                • I wanted to ask if 95 Cobra wheels will work on an SVO? I love those rims and think they would look great on an SVO. I'm not even sure the size of these wheels.

                  • I recently put on a set of '97 Cobras with 245/40 Potenzas. They fit fine with no rubbing.

                    • ciscokid asked in another thread:

What springs do you have on your car?

With the 17x8 ET35 TSW wheels and the 245R40 tires don't you have excess clearance on the inside rear to the inner fender, and wouldn't it be even more if the quad-shock were removed? I am considering a set of 17" wheels but I am tempted to buy different offsets for the front and back in order to maximize the available space as I will be removing the quad shocks when I install a Steeda 5-link setup.

                      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am running the Eibach Pro-Kit springs, p/n 3510.140, which are for a V8 Mustang but work with our SVO's due to the spring perches in the front a-arms. My car dropped 1/4" front and 5/8" rear with these springs along with adding a secondary spring isolator up front to bring up the front ~5/8" from the initial 7/8" drop. I did this because the car had too much rake to it and bringing the front end up just a bit leveled it out nicely. Check out some of my info in this thread:

                      http://www.svoca.com/forum/showthrea...ch-spring-info

Your comment about the Steeda 5-link setup is important. Without a lateral locating link (i.e.- panhard, watts, etc) your rear axle will move more than you think. I am running a Fays2 Watts, so I don't worry about lateral movement any more. I just poked my head under my car and measured a 2" clearance between both the quad shock shaft as well as the inner fender metal and my tires. So there isn't any clearance advantage to removing the quads in my car, unless I 'tweak' the rear fenderwell sheetmetal. I could move up to a 9 or 9.5" width rear rim and still clear things back there. Doing some quick calculations shows that a 17x9" rim would need a 48mm offset to keep the same outward location, while a 17x9.5 would require a 54mm offset. A 9.5" rear is pushing it a bit, but could work with a 'located' rear axle. To mimic my current 245/45 tire height, you could move up to a 275/40 tire. I would suggest rolling your rear fender lips along with potentially massaging the inner fender well sheetmetal to avoid any contact. This is all hypothetical, so YMMV as others have had various success with their combinations. Good luck.

                      • Thanks for the info, Ted. I was not familiar with the Fays watts so I looked it up online and it looks like a pretty nice piece. I had considered a Whiteline watts link but it replaces the rear cover on the diff and that is not allowed in SCCA SP classes.

It looks like you have to retain the upper control arms with the watts, although they no longer have to perform the axle lateral location function. Did you replace your stock arms with an alternate? It would seem like you could use a simple UCA with heim joints instead of the rubber bushings and eliminate the bind that is built into the OE suspension.

The Fays looks like it might be a better setup than the 5 link for autox and road course.

                        • I think the 5-link would work too, I figured if I was going to dive into things I would go with a full-on Watts setup. I looked at the Whiteline and the former Evolution Watts setups, but didn't care for linking the pivot to the differential housing. And as you mentioned the 2014 SCCA rules changes have now changed what cars can use the diff mounted watts units. I only run auto-x for fun, so I don't care where they class me as I am not in it for the competition with anyone else.

I replaced my uppers with the UMI adjustable arms with their Roto-joint for the reasons you mentioned. The Roto-joint is a rebuildable heim-style joint on the chassis end, but you could just as easily go with their heim joint adjustable arms as well. So far the suspension seems to have good motion without any bind, which I am basing on the fact that I haven't found any snap oversteer with it. When I was running poly bushings in all 8 positions and boxed upper arms I had severe snap oversteer issues, but they did work well for 1.8s 60-ft times on the strip back when I drag raced.

To see some videos of my Fays2 in action and the axle location during an auto-x, you can check out my Youtube channel. Just search for "svoturbo4" and you should find it.

                          • Im running 17x8 roush cobra rims and 145/45/17 all the way around.
No rubbing at all if im alone in the car and only slight rubbing in passenger front with a passenger.

                            • I've asked this question to one of the more knowledgeable SVO guys, but more info never hurts.

What would it take to mount the 2005, V6, Eleanor style wheel on the SVO? I imagine the front hub is the issue. Grease bearing cover sticking out too far? What about hub size? Any issues at all with the rear? I found of very nice set of these for WAY cheap, and figured they'd make for a good set of emergency/track wheels with track tires mounted on them. I'm getting the original wheels re-finished and installing new Goodyear Eagle GT's, so the current Comp TA's would make for a decent track tire on these wheels.
                              Thanks SVO community!
